I really don't like this new format

With ads popping up all the time but I suppose it wouldn't do any good to complain.

Absolutely beautiful here today. Heavy fog last night andthe trees, shrubs and even the fences are covered with diamonds, have never seen heavier rime on everything before.

To those of you in the south with all the snow, something is reversed, we have only had a couple of snows none over 3 or 4 inches and not lasting very long. The bitter cold temps. have been here though. We really need a foot of snow or more for cover for vegetation, good insulator from the cold.

Hoarfrost, something our location is not good in since we are on a plateau and river, even brooks, too far way.
George and Leone, stay warm. All the best wishes for you, Leone and of course Spook too.

Can you use an ad blocker? With Firefox I don't have the problem you describe.

Thanks for that, Jasdip! I somehow figured that out right around the time I posted here last nite. I posted it over on my usual RMG forum so the folks over there can reclaim their "real" names too! But I also agree with Brandon about the graphics! And without the “subject” at the top of each reply, it’s difficult, at best, to quickly scroll down a thread and see the “individual” replies—they all just kind of “blend together!” (And in the past I used to sometimes have several threads open at the same time in different windows, and now, without the subject by each reply, the only way for me to figure out which thread I’m looking at is to scroll all the way up to the top of the window to look at the subject.) And ditto on the fact that you can no longer tell which threads you’ve already read! The “subject” used to “change color” after you had clicked on a thread, so you could easily “check in” and see if there had been any NEW posts since the last time you looked! Now you need to either click on the top thread and actually take the time to look at the last reply, or, I guess, you need to try to remember which thread was on top and “how many hours ago” the most recent post was! Say what? There’s no way I’m gonna remember “how many hours ago” the last post was—and, in any event, that CHANGES! It used to give the actual time (EST) when someone posted or replied, and that I could remember. More importantly, it gave the “number of replies” by each post, and that was fairly easy to remember for the most recent post, but since the “subject” changed color, you really didn’t even need to try to remember that—unless you had deleted your cookies! I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s just a lot harder to work with now—and takes a lot longer to try to see what you want to see. That, and a lot of other things, especially the fact that some old, long posts, that had a LOT of good info, are suddenly truncated, and all that good (and it took people a lot of time and effort to post it) info is now just GONE! I have a lot of good friends on GW, and I REALLY want it to go on—forever, but the more difficult and time consuming it becomes to use, I suspect more and more people will slowly disappear. The changes are the result of the integration process that had to occur so that Houzz could manage ongoing upkeep of the site along with it's other massive undertakings. Unfortunately, everything in the world costs money, and the way GardenWeb was going, it wasn't bringing in enough money to support itself. So, the owners/managers looked around for someone who was willing to take on the work and financial risk involved in taking over a complicated system. Houzz agreed to try, and this is the result. Though it may not be obvious to us, there are actually a bunch of Houzz members and employees working very hard to help this transition to be as smooth as possible. Problems have arisen that were not expected (surprise!) and they have been dealt with as well as the problem solvers were able. I, for one, am happy to still be able to visit with my old GW friends. There are frustrations with the new format, and I encourage everyone to work with Houzz to help them make it better. But, we can also choose to be grateful, and that feels really good. Martha

“Update 😫” Oh Susan….I am so, so sorry this happened. I was hoping you would come back with a fabulous kitchen to show us, but feared this might happen. Why oh why didn’t you come back here for help before picking out that cool-toned grayish backsplash tile to pair with that warm toned countertop? The bright white cabinets don’t look great with the counter, but at least you might have had a chance to salvage it somehow with the right color tile for the backsplash, the right flooring, and the right color walls. The granite counters are pretty, but the bright cool white color cabinets do not compliment the stone well at all. Didn’t you say were doing all new cabinets? I see you got the new pantry cabinet, the desk, and panels for the back of the island. Hey, at least that awful tile on the island is gone! 😆 So the old cabinets just look primed. Are you attempting to paint the old cabinets the same color white as the new cabinets? First off, I would remove that tile backsplash and fire whoever talked you into pairing that with the granite. Also fire the installer who tiled the side of a stinkin’ cabinet. I mean who even does that!!! The right side of the pantry wall should not have been tiled either. Are you still planning to install that peachish tan swirled large format tile on the floors? Because that will only compound the problem. I know you are trying so hard to have a nice beautiful new kitchen and home. It will be ok, but I do think the backsplash needs to go ASAP. Don’t let anyone else touch a thing until you get a total plan in place for the rest of the materials, wall color, etc etc… We can try and help you fix this as best as we can. But I will say, this is the perfect example where following the advice to hire a professional designer might have actually saved you money, tears, regret, and disappointment. Worth the $ spent to have a gorgeous home that you will love for the next 20 years.

Shoot, maybe I'll join her. Being inside for days makes one a little stir crazy.

I haven't seen a Hoarfrost in several years.
A mountain covered over with a Hoarfrost is a breathtaking
sight. Neil and I used to get out and ride around for hours
when we had one nearby. Lucky you George.

I have Firefox, they used to be good at blocking but now I see a lot of ads. Perhaps I need to upgrade Firefox.
I agree gandle, I don't the new format either.

Thanks for mentioning this, George. I'd though it was just me/my browser.

Weather? Yeah, yet another 2-3 inches of snow here today. I am seriously not a fan of this miserable stuff.

I have Firefox and never had the ads before. I would not even mind plain ads all that much, but the animation makes it very hard to concentrate on reading - writing - posting; they distract so much and it does not make me want to buy or even consider their product, they just annoy.

Received a picture series made in Norway. Boy do they have hoarfrost. Never seen it in Maryland but Spokane Washington really has it especially out in the scrub pine flats. Yes had great Christmas.. Steve in Baltimore County.

Hoar frost all over everything here....it would be lovely if the sun would come out....but...
And I also hate those bouncing jumping flashing ads....
I can't even tell you what they are for....they are just something to ignore, like you ignore the traffic noise if you live in a city or near a highway.
I know the iVillages has been given the OK to stay on NASDAC....but I won't be buying any of their stock because I think they are newly alienating customers.

Not many ads, but for a couple months, logging in doesn't work well for GP, if I log in (and get no-page-found error msg) and then go to another forum, there I am, already logged in!

Weather here is just COLD and windy. We missed the big coastal snow by maybe 30 miles, just had an inch of powder which blew away overnight. This is the second time we've had powder snow instead of the usual icy mess; nice! Wind gusts to 50+ mph -- trash cans blown all over, rescued several from the hibiscus bed in the front yard. Don't know whose, 3 companies serve this street so I hope upwind neighbors come and retrieve their windblown wanderer.
