Most of my Bucks have come from 3 sources -- Pickering, Chamblees and Northland Rosarium. Northland has an extensive selection of Bucks, but supplies only band-size plants.

Thankfully, I've not had virus problems with Bucks -- at any rate, no signs have yet emerged. I've read, however, that RMV is an issue with some varieties that apparently were infected BEFORE being introduced into commerce (a result of grafting onto diseased understock). Perhaps someone else here knows more about that, and can provide info on specific varieties that may be problematic.

Yes, hello to Ceterum! Papi Delbard has been good for me so far.

Serendipity from RU a couple of years ago was horribly virused. Many others from there have never shown symptoms. Country Dancer, Earth Song, Prairie Harvest, P. Sunrise, Winter Sunset, Distant Drums, Carefree Beauty. Not sure about Les Sjulin. Donny reported virus on some of these. I don't know if Pat got clean stock plants or if mine just didn't show it. But they grew, except for DD.

You are correct about most roses being tested for market during the time Griffith Buck was working, were seedlings grafted to virused rootstock, therefore the roses introduced to commerce were virused. BUT, and this is important, the roses that have survived the test of time in spite of starting out virused, are not terribly impacted by the virus.

However, that is a very general statement. It depends upon whether or not the budwood selected for propagation was as clean as possible. That said, the virus could show up anytime even tho' the nursery has taken all possible precautions to provide healthy plants.

The rose virus immune system is temperature sensitive (it works best at high temperature) so a virused rose that is "not terribly impacted by the virus" in a warmer climate can still be "impacted" in a cooler climate.

Hm-m-m-m, I'm in a cooler climate and some of my roses show signs of RMV but very late in the season. But, Even those that do are not terribly impacted in my garden. None show symptoms bad enough I'd even consider shovel pruning.

Neither Les Sjulin nor Serendipity show virus symptoms in my garden. Mine were all own root from Great Lakes Roses.

My outdoors is past tense as far as being it a garden rather a junk and a weed yard. Embarrassing.

I am glad, MichaelG, that Papi D. is doing well for you. I hope not all my plants are dead. Papi is not looking all that great but has a few promising canes.
