Back to Basics?

With poinsettias, that is.

This year, it seems as though 80-90% are the traditional red ones, just a smattering of white, none of the tangerineish ones that were fashionable a few years ago, very few with contrasting veins.

I'm sure the red ones now are much improved over the ones I first remember from the Truman administration, but I can't see a lot of difference -- maybe a somewhat deeper, less scarlet red.

Any thoughts as to whether this is just a sign of the economic times, or did we go too far with the exotic shades a few years back?
