I just planted Bishop's Castle!

I can not wait to see this rose bloom. The pictures show such a pretty pink bloom....I know pictures can lie. But so far, all my Austins have gorgeous blooms! I wonder what the scent will be like??

I do so love pink blooms..I love them all but pink is still my favorite color. Did anyone else order Bishop's Castle?

I've had to defer new rose purchases till next year, but you're right that the photos of this one are stunning. I'll be so eager to hear how you like it (even though we have such dissimilar climates).

I agree with Hoov's color assessment of PAoK. There are often small areas of apricot shading near the center of her blooms. I've also found that her color can be fairly variable during the season. My PAoK is very cold hardy, showing no cane damage at all this spring, after experiencing our terrible Arctic blast around Nov 15 last fall. That little weather anomaly really did a number on about two thirds of my roses. I believe PAoK's blooms are larger than Bishop's Castle's. She is pretty much a continuous bloomer, too. Diane

Lol! Oh that's funny about the pee! Maybe not so horrible if it was your own pee- just don't do it in the garden, one may unintentionally get stung somewhere else! rotfl... I had heard urine was good for fertilizing acidic plants like gardenias too. I remember people used to advise peeing on jellyfish stings and there was a lot of public peeing down at the beaches lol. It was on the news too. Then the scientists said, no urine didnt work for jellyfish. Who knows why, maybe because too many people peeing in public lol. Vaporvac, thats intersting about the nettles losing potency after cooking. I wish the nettles would stay in the wild here! We had a lot of untypical rain this winter. It seems like when we have cool wet springs, it much worse for nettles. At least once the temps start heating up good, the nettles die out till next spring.

Thank you Diane. I wont be officially done until June, but they set it up where we can have good schedules to study from now on. This month I am only doing autopsies from 6am to noon, then have the rest of the day to seat at work and study. I will seat for my exam in May. I will practice always to the best of my abilities with love and compassion. Thank you Helen, oursteelers and Kristine. I just have to pass this last one and then :) will do lots of gardening. I would appreciate any prayers. A few months isn’t really that long to review everything I hopefully learned in the last 4 years.

Deb, I've heard that it's really fragrant! Isn't that the pink one that looks like huge peony blooms?

Yes Gin...it is supposed to look like a peony. I absolutely LOVE peonies, but sadly....I can not grow them here. So I have to find roses that look like a peony bloom!!! I hope it does smell as wonderful as it is said to smell.

That's okay Ruth....I didn't mind the hijack at all...it was still talking roses!

Ralf I have noticed that we grow alot of the same roses. Haven't met a pink Austin yet that I didn't like.

Deb I forget how big he is supposed to get but I suspect he will be much larger in your climate than mine but still I cannot resist those pink Austins.

I think I remember the catalog saying it would get 4 X 3, so for me I read...5 X 4. I do love those big fat pink blooms on all of David Austin roses. I went out and looked at the bush and it is breaking dormancy!!! I am sooo excited.

Deb---It is freezing here and supposed to get colder on Fri-----It made me chuckle when you said your rose is breaking dormancy---almost makes me want to move south---LOL

I wonder what the name of this rose is here in Europe? The registered designation name AUSbecks does not match any Austin rose here in Europe. I wonder why the renaming of this rose and why it got introduced in America by J & P and not Austin Roses/US. I do not recall this rose being introduced on the Chelsea flower show in London like all Austins usually are.

Bishops Castle is a little blooming machine for me! It isn't the tallest Austin, about the size of perhaps Prospero. The BS resistance is pretty good, it got a touch of it at the beginning of spring but just shrugged it off and kept on blooming. The scent is really nice, the blooms are very double and last a good long time even here in hot, humid Florida!

All in all, I am VERY pleased with Bishop's Castle.

I love pink Austins. I'm glad to know that this one does well. I'm thinking of giving Eglantyne the heave ho next year.

My favorite color is pink...any pink, with a slight yellowish at the base...just sends me to seventh heaven!

Ehann, how old is your Eglantyne? I put mine in a new bed and that bugger took off. I make sure to deep water it, with extra water(well, actually I put my aquarium water on it) and extra food. I take a gallon every other day from a goldfish aqaurium and put that on my eglantyne, I think that has made a big difference for some reason. Anyway, this is the 4th year I have had Eglantyne and this is the only year it has done really good. I almost lost it a couple years ago. I love the shape of the bloom so much, just gorgeous and the smell is wonderful. I hope you can give it another year and perhaps it will take off. Perhaps some fish emulsion put on it would help.

This is the second year. They tend to all jolly green on me. I've tried hard pruning, and recently, I pegged it down with fair results. The spring flush is okay, but then there's just one or two flowers here and there. That's not good enough in my garden.

Really it wouldn't be so bad, but I have THREE, all in a row.

Yes, if it doesn't bloom enough than...OFF with her head...LOL. I love roses to bloom lots too. Three in a row...that would be prime real estate for something that blooms it's little head off then! Don't blame you in the least.

What rose's were you thinking of putting in Eglantyne's spots??
