Comments (28)My experience with Dr Huey in my dry sandy soil is that the plants get stressed much more easily than those on fort. They also get more trouble with Nematodes which greatly reduces flower production. If you have a nice water retentive soil I am sure Dr Huey can do very well as well. But in my area where there is water restriction and there is no rain at all for the three months of summer, sometimes even longer, the roses on Dr Huey are not productive in the really hot months and they need much more water to show vigour. That's why I SP'd all of them, and I had quite a few to begin with as I was attracted to their cheap price. The ones on Dr Huey didn't die when it was hot and dry but they just sat there and did nothing until the rain came. I am not very patient and I need my plants to produce flowers all the time in order to keep me happy....See MoreHere are my most globular roses, show me yours!
Comments (31)Dianela, Opps that is Star of the Republic, not Spirit of Freedom, I don’t know where my brain was.....lol. I don’t even own SoF! But I see so many pictures of that amazing rose here, it feels like I have owned it at some point :-) I also love changeable blooms! My Compassion climber has colors anywhere from medium pink, cool weather, to light apricot, hot weather. I will now go edit that post in Safari/browser to correct it. The Houzz app doesn’t seem to have a feature to let you edit. I am also limited to 4 photos per comment in app. Shelia, those darned critters! Amazing that it survived. Just goes to show how hardy roses can be....See MoreShow me your green backsplash!
Comments (4)I have Pratt & Larson "R Gloss" series in something green, sort of a washed out Jadeite color. It's a good company if you need trim pieces--I did a section of countertop and needed edges and corners and bullnoses. If you can find a P&L distributor, look at a board full of their colors. They are really nice. (The "Watercolor" series are possibly even better, but not rated for counters or 1950s homes.) I don't wanna clean my kitchen so no installed photos...sorry. This is from us picking grout color and isn't accurate for color but you can see how the color is delightfully gloppy around the edges. I almost did Fireclay in "Kiwi" (they do trim piece too) but the crackle finish was too delicate for a countertop. It is fine for a backsplash. Fireclay has lots of gentle greens, but most are a little too earthy for me. :) The tile installer found the P&L to be pretty regular for handmade tile. I have Fireclay in a bathroom and it's pretty good too. I've had handmade stuff in the past that required a lot of culling. :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
