In a 2 gal pot in the boneyard. The problem is they only ship their one gallons. If you knew someone near Tyler, TX that could ship one.

Just FYI:

With MOST Climbing roses, you really do have to wait about 3 years for maturity.
And many of them won't give you a real show until the plant matures.
Not that you won't get some blooms, but you won't get the full effect.
ANY rose, in fact, should have a good three years to show what it can do.

(That said, I AM feeling a tad testy at Night Owl, which declines to bloom AT ALL.)

You are very bad! It is a single, so I would think it would abhor night!

That rose better not try my patience too far. One more year without any bloom at all, and it will find its roots being used for kindling!

This is around year #4 for Ghislaine, and she's a goner. She has given me nothing, but the other 4 I planted at the same time have either put on growth or both growth AND blooms. Secret Garden Musk climber is threatening to take over the whole city, but that would be fine, since it appears to bloom all year. But when I say "little growth" for GdF, I mean that it has not put out even one additional cane, and it just puts out 4 mm diameter shoots from existing meager shoots (nothing thicker than a pencil). Photos I've seen of Ghislaine showed peachy-yellow blooms of moderate size, and looked very worth the wait. This plant gives (a total of about 4 blooms over the years) 1" flowers that look more white/beige than anything else. Last year I posted here asking whether this even sounded like I received the right bush.... I do have patience, but not forever- Crepuscule has done fairly little so far, but has a reputation for being slow- still it promises to have a big show this year, and the flowers I got last year were sumptuous and worth lots of love and patience.
I'm done with patience and moving on to a new-found love that I know blooms well in my area.

But the post was about Eden: A local source has it from Star roses. What's the reputation? I'm tempted to just buy that this weekend and get it in the ground. I know it takes years to get a show going, but I want to see promise and progress....

I've only ever bought one rose from Star.

It was SUPPOSED to be 'The Dark Lady,' but turned out to be an orange HT that was UNBELIEVABLY affected by Rose Mosaic Virus.

Between the Virus, the rust the thing had, and the orange bloom, it was pretty noticeable -- for the short time it was in my garden.

I bought my Eden Cl. from Roses Unlimited. It was already in bloom when they sent it to me, and it kept on blooming the first year after I plopped it in the ground--not heavy blooming, but it was blooming. Some posters have complained that they saw few or no blooms the first year or two. Mine has simply increased blooming each year, so I've been very happy with mine.

I think everything I've ever received from Roses Unlimited has been healthy and blooming. Love their plants. They do have a minimum of 3 plants per order, however, so you may have to pick out two others. Aw, what a shame! LOL

I had an Eden that I got from J&P and it bloomed about 3-4 blooms per year for many years and did until the day it went to the mulch pile. I got one from Roses Unlimited and it was blooming when I got it and has bloomed ever since I planted it and repeats, which I hear many do not. I guess I just got a bad one to begin with and ended up with a good one. It is one of the roses that I am keeping.

I pruned my 6' Eden to to 12" yesterday, it is getting one last chance to perform before I shovel prune. In its second year, it had the most beautiful spring bloom, but has been a real dog ever since. I would not suggest Eden for a harsh climate.
I got mine from Chamblees as well.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I'm going to go with the plant from Star. Someone at Regan's nursery says that these are doing very well in the bay area, and they do specialize in roses. Think I'll give it a whirl.

As is typical in the bay area, there's no way I can find room in my tiny yard for more roses- the parts that are not in Sequoia shadows are already full- so I can't do roses unlimited again! (my fence roses already came from them--- apart from Ghislaie de Feligonde, I'm really happy with their plants. They arrived as teeensy rooted plants. Teeny tiny. But I had patience and mostly it was worth it. Crepuscule is going to give a nice show this year, as it put on a 6 food cane over the summer/fall. Crepuscule tried to bloom 2-3 times last season and the color and texture of the blooms were gorgeous.

Secret Garden Musk climber has more 6-foot canes than I can count! it IS taking over the city, and isn't the best rose-citizen to plant next to a sidewalk. Oh well. It has not gone to sleep yet this year, and STILL has blooms on it. No stopping it. Thinking of offering pruned canes on Craigs list for others to root.

GdF is the only loser from the set. I hate to give up, but it just isn't going to do anything for me.
