LP not knowing every fitting that you are using I would guess that the length of pipe with fittings to be 75 ft or at 3600 gph the total head would be 9.38 ft. Which would be very close to the max head of pump so the flow would be quite a bit lower than 3600 so the total head would drop probably somewhere about 8 ft of head but not having a pump curve for this pump I can't tell you what output or head you would have for sure.

I guess I'm missing your point on the fittings. I stated all fittings (I thought) in my first post. Next week I should be getting a check valve and leaf basket that I will be placed before pump and they will included when they arrive.

I also have attached the flow rate chart graphic for this pump.

Your initial response leads me in the direction of "most likely" scraping the filter connection and just going with an outflow near wall. This would give me a place to smoothly attach (smoothly, as in, less hassle) the UV unit I just received to this adapted set-up.

LP you gave me the elbows but I am sure that there are other fittings like coupling on the lengths of pipe, maybe some male adaptors where the pipe connects to the pump or filter, maybe a valve, maybe a bulkhead fitting. So I will assume that there are no other fittings than stated. The pipe friction is the same as 67.5 ft of 2" pipe. Based on that you going to get an output of about 2000 gph.

Here are all the parts from beginning to end.

The pipe from the skimmer to just before the pump is 1.5", then an expander coupling to 2", check valve, leaf basket, pump, 2" 90 degree elbow, 3 connector couplings, 2" 45 degree elbow, 2" 90 degree elbow, then another 90 degree elbow, into a 2" bulkhead fitting.

Pipe: 3 feet of 1 1/2" pipe and 32 feet of 2" pipe.

The head pressure due to piping is 95.5 ft of 2" and 3 ft of 1.5 inch. You are looking at about 1800 gph of output at the filter but you first said that there are 5 90 deg elbows and how is the pipe connected to the bulkhead and pump.

Surfhead, behind that cool brick wall are a couple of 55 gallon drum filters? If so are they bottom fed or top fed. My skippy filter was orginaly bottom fed , I change it out to a top feed dumping water into a 4" pipe that went to the bottom of the filter. Flow really increased. I am not an expert like Mike but a 100 gal filter bottom fed tells me at roughly 8 pounds per gallon , my pump had approx 800 pounds of pressure that the pump had to over come. I guess it is the size on the water column the pump is pushing againest. I don't think there is much of a diference, height being the same, in water column between a three inch pipe vs. a 1 inch pipe but... a pipe the size of a skippy filter must have greater back presuure then a 2inch pipe... Mike what do you think?? or am I nuts??

Yes all those 90 degree elbows are in the mix. I should of left such a misleading statement out as:

"Here are all the parts from beginning to end."

Let me back up and take it from the inflow at the skimmer.

1 1/2" pipe in-let with screen tip
6" of 1 1/2" pipe to a 1 1/2" 90 degree elbow
10" of 1 1/2" pipe to a 1 1/2" 90 degree elbow
24" of 1 1/2" pipe to a 1 1/2" to 2" expander
4" of 2" pipe to a check valve
4" of 2" pipe to a leaf basket/Dolphin ES-3500 pump with 2" pipe slip-in connectors.
2" of 2" pipe to a 2" 90 degree elbow

The pipe now slopes down due to weight from 10" to 6" above water level. The piece of pipe is 4 feet of 2".

90 degree elbow

Now there is 23-24 feet of 2" pipe with (three) 2" connectors at ends of individual pipe pieces.

45 degree 2" elbow

5 feet of 2" pipe.

90 degree elbow (going up)

@2 feet of 2" pipe (vertical)

90 degree elbow

4" of 2" pipe(connected to a slip-in bulkhead connector)

2" Bulkhead into 55 gallon barrel filter

That's it... I hope this help to clear up the question you had about what is in my pond works.

Yes I do hope for the day when I can solely concentrate on matters other than head pressure to filters; like how to combat the green attack that is happening right probably because I'm running a high salt solution (.25 at present and working downward to .10) and the skimmer being off-line doesn't help (working on a temp. patch until pump returns from service).

No offense to surfhead (he is a knowledgeable guy), but that wall be my creation(aka monster). The FIVE barrels are up flow to gravity outputs into the wall.

Scaley, It doesn't matter how large the pipe or container is as the psi are the same. In fact the calculation is 4 ft of the larger pipe when you expand into a larger pipe or container and I would guess that you have the pipe going over the top of the skippy with a elbow at the top of it to the center of the filter. If this the case the head pressure would be about 10 ft of pipe and the first with bulkhead would be about 8 ft. I would say your increase came from pipe diameters more than anything else.

Ok Matt now we can calculate the friction of the piping. I am going to list the amount pipe each pipe and fitting is in the order that you listed them. .5,4,.84,4,and 2. This is the 1.5 side of the piping not counting the screen tip. The 2" is as follows 4,.33,6,.33,10,4.5,.15,6,23.5,(3*6),2.5,5,6,2,6,.33,4.5,5. Now we add the numbers for each pipe size and we get 11.34 ft of 1.5 inch pipe and 104.14 ft of two inch pipe. Now to convert the 1.5 to 2" so that we just use one pipe size we get 37.8 ft of 2" pipe so the total friction would be based on 141.94. This is somewhat rough in that I don't know how much of the 1.5" pipe is above the water and below and what the screen inlet would do. I would guess the flow of the pump to be 1600 to 1900 gph.

I'll try out the set-up, see if the flow is acceptable (to that barrel filter and outflow). If not, I'll write it off as a lesson learned, cap the inflow off, and run the line out there next to the other outfall.
