When I stretch out on a couch to read, Spook the cat invariably jumps up on my lap and always has the same meow. I think it is a question, Leone says she is making a statement. Don't know which but it is comforting to have her dozing on my lap.

Last Saturday we were at the farm for belated thanksgiving celebration and I have the greatest picture of Moose, one of the Pyrennes dogs. this 145 lb. dog is sitting up with his front paws held out in front of him. No one ever taught him to do this. All he really seems to want is attention. He isn't begging for food, just pat my head please. When you look into the eyes of of this enormous dog you see gentle intellegence looking back at you. He loves people, adores cats he likes other dogs and just about every living thing except coyotes which he innately detests. No one had to teach him that, seems to be inbred. They have had absolutely no problem with coyotes with him there. I think the coyotes just get close enough to see him and say "I don't think so" and leave.

Years ago we had a very large black lab when we were living in the country, also we had lots of barn cats . At that time canned dog food was 9 cents a can, Crown Prince dog food that is. Every morning Leone would make a huge pan of steel cut oat meal, this was to feed us and there would be a lot left over in which the can of dog food was mixed. Rather strange syntax just then. The dog and cats were fed side by side and the dog would wolf down his share and watch the kittens. He always picked on one kitten, he would pick it up and push the kitten down in the oatmeal, he never would hurt it just dip it in food. then he would carry this kitten around in his massive mouth, never hurting the kitten who seemed resigned to this. The poor kitten never was completely clean like the rest of the cats but always had a little of its breakfast on it.

Wish I was intellegent enough to post this picture of the Pyrennes. If I could ever see someone do it I would know how but reading how to post pictures just doesn't do it for me. Don't understand the terms.

I love GP dogs, the neighbor across the highway had 2
and they used to come to visit us often, I suspect it was
for the hugs and pats we gave them.

Brenda, I fiddled with that photo for a couple of HOURS before I finally GAVE UP and went back to the pre-edited version... everything I did just made it look WORSE, no matter how close I zoomed in -- even 800% -- but I was using dog-cheap (sic) software... Besides, the green gives us something to talk about, huh? And toady, as for that off-the-one-ear pose, glad ya like it... I kinda do, too -- especially since I had to settle for it, as he had just about HAD IT with posing at that point, and every time we tried putting the hat on straight, it either fell off the back of his head, or slid down completely over his eyes, and then he shook it off... Didn't really matter, as a picture of a party hat with a puppydog snout poking out from underneath it wouldn't really tell ya much about who was under the hat, now would it? :) Jeff

Hi again deee. Yes, I have been busy - and I have moved it all back but with a change so that I can see out my front window still. I reversed the arm chair and the love seat. AnnieD - please see attached link to the new set up. I don't think those red curtains will stay but they have the bold factor all right! I put 'em up so I would see if that bold window treatment idea of yours would help And it does. I also turned that little rug sideways so that it extends toward the fireplace further (along with the love seat) as it will when I get a bigger one. Sealavender - congrats on your new little bird! He is a cutie! I have three of these little guys and they are so endearing. If you dont have much time to spend with him, you might consider another budgie so he has a pal. These guys travel in large flocks and really crave the company of other parakeets. My first parakeet (Pip) was found outside by a friend. Eventually, I bought him a buddie (Sky) and the difference in his personality was amazing! It as clear he was craving a friend. Since budgies are very active animals, I bought them a double flight cage. They use every inch of that cage. Pip passed away recently, after 8 years. I found Petuniae on craigslist, living in a very tiny cage and with a smoker to keep Sky company. Petuniae is a boy, but because of his mutation he looks like a girl. Luke was found flying around town (I named him after Luke Skywalker as he was flying the galaxy). Luke wasnt in great condition, but boy is he a cheeky little fella now. lukkiirish - After buying 3 pairs of professionally fitted boots I know suggest that people start with baby socks or balloons to even see if their pups will wear boots. I wish we had gone that route. Our dog understands the relationship between very hairy feet and ice balls/salt but obviously that is our fault! He also has a coat. Eskies are funny - very hairy but despite being double coated it is most definitely hair like rather than fur. He also has pink skin which shows on his tummy when you get through all of that hair. Thank heavens for chewable heartworm and tick prevention. He also considers them treats which also helps because there is nothing wrong with his appetite! But putting on his coat has become a challenge since he is now 15 and has various aches and pains. He has always been a dog that will only go out with one of us on the other end of the leash. Cherryfizz - our dog also loves water. He is jealous even of people watering their lawns in the summer. He is also a snow eater. The other day we had so much snow that our 25 lb. Eskie disappeared when we took him out - we pulled him back in fast so that he wouldn't eat a tunnel. Actually, he loves water so much we even had him tested for diabetes a few years ago. Fortunately, he was clear.

Gandie, I got a chuckle when you said our pets help define us. I had a much-loved Amazon Parrot for 13 years, acquired when my son went off to school and I was working mostly at home. He was delighted to find and of course send to me this quote from Mark Twain:

"She was not quite what you would call refined. She was not quite what you would call unrefined. She was the type of woman who kept parrots."

Ny son and I agreed the quote fit me quite well. ~grin~ josh

Yep, the GP looks like a GP, but I gotta admit that if the pictured gentleman is our Gandle, my mental image is how he will look in thirty years. The laugh lines are the same.

Many years ago, I had a friend who raised GPs for 'show'. They are wonderfully friendly dogs, but don't wear navy blue if you share the back seat with one.
