Name That Plant!

Large pink and white flowers, possibly bulbs?

I am SO new to gardening that it's actually very embarrassing. I also have several ID requests forthcoming and hopefully no one will mind. The really sad part is that because I have just moved, I've yet to find my digital camera, so I'm forced to use my stupid picture phone. Yuck.

Anyway, this beauty is pink and white and very large. It's growing in a shady forgotten corner. Judging from the base leaves, it looks to me that it might be a bulb. They are thick, green leaves.

I'm guessing it's some sort of lily, but I wouldn't know because I've no experience in this area. This is my first house that I actually own, and am greatly excited with this gardening prospect. I'm almost forty and I've waited for all these years to finally have my own beautiful yard.

Aha! So I'm not as dumb as I thought. ;) It indeed is a lily. Thanks very much for the ID.

The first one is Dianthus barbatus, Sweet William. Try comparing your second plant to Silene latifolia. Here is a link that might be useful: Google image results

Hi Jenn. Yes, I've found a lot of amazing tips here. I had a vegetable garden once many years ago, and it was a community garden. That however was my only try and I've never had trees to care for nor flowers. We were Army so we moved a lot. Now though, we're settled and I'm going to try just about everything! I'm so very excited and thank you so much for the congrats. I've waited for years for this moment and it's finally here! Happy Gardening to you as well. :)
