I think the night temps in January would probably do the trick, but I think I'll just stick with the monster hard canes I have and pass on anymore dends. Hi Tammy, No they aren't. The inventory isn't in the database yet either. I had specific roses in mind that I knew had gone to Heirloom because when I tried to add them to my last Vintage order I couldn't as I learned to my surprise they weren't at Vintage any more. It was pure accident that I found out so soon. So I contacted Heirloom about the 3 I have ordered now and got repeated updates. You should take some credit for this purchase because it was your post on the Roses forum about a sale at Heirloom (hadn't checked my email box yet for the announcement) that caused me to write again and ask about the status of Siwa, Nymphe Tepla, and Kraskoje Kawaskole. So thanks! Once the inventory is up on Heirloom's website, I am likely to buy more. I was fortunate enough to see Eurodesert while it was still open, and my selections are highly influenced by what I learned by observing that garden. I'm still having sensory overload trying to absorb the information gained during my visits. Remembering thousands of roses sure isn't easy--even with looking at the thousands (yep THAT many) of photos I took. Some roses really stood out and feature in my choices now. Those visits also changed the way I grow roses, or rather opened my mind to classes that I'd never really considered before, such as species and/or roses which are the result of unusual crosses. Thanks Virginia! Yes, I did order Pax last year. It was a bit tiny so I put it in a pot to grow on a bit. Sadly, I'm forgetful when it comes to watering, so it didn't do much all year and is still tiny. I think I'll just put it in the ground this winter. I wonder what your mystery rose is? It's lovely anyway. My camellia hedge is doing well! (Probably because I didn't torture it by putting it in a pot and forgetting to water). It's still not really recognisable as a hedge, more a series of tiny plants doing battle with weeds. But I went with Brushfield's Yellow, which flowers in late winter, so if I'm lucky I might see one or two blooms in a few months :)

just 2 things, maybe i'm blind: i went looking for this "modern rose forum" and i can't find it. seems the "modern forum" doesn't exist, and this whole thread has just been a practical joke - congratulations to the OP, you had us going there. and now that i noticed that, i realized something in addition: roses are not actually "modern", but in reality are very old and historical. when speaking of the rose, it might be prefaced by something like: "And now...introducting...the Queen!" a Queen is obviously not anything very modern either, so the whole premise, (or practical joke), of the discussion, is just a farce. There are newer hybrids, of course, just like there are newer hybrids of apples, but no one talks about "modern apples", or "modern wheat", or modern any other plant, because, simply, they are just not really "modern" at all, not like a modern automobile, or a telephone, or a washing machine, or an antibiotic or chemotherapy medicine,rose are, have been, and always will be highly historical, steeped in tradition and culture, and there never will be this alleged "modern rose forum", because that is very simply, a contradiction in terms, and cannot exist. Indeed, if we use the modern search engine "Google", and type in "modern rose forum" - guess what? - there does not even exist a "modern rose forum" anywhere. so before talking about a forum that doesn't exist anywhere, I suggest using "Google", and remember - Google is your friend.
