This is the first time I have looked in detail at Big Leaf orchids. I don't collect Phaelies keeing gigantea, violacea and a couple of other species only, so am not at all an expert but their site is othing short of impressive.

Yes, Nick. You may use your inner tube much further upstream. Stitz chooses to use the General Jubal A. Early ferry. It's much quicker and safer.

Thank you all for the info. I really appreciate it. I checked the websites - very nice orchids. Unfortunately when i add shipping charges on they are out of my price range....i guess i will have to just see what i can get locally so i don't have to worry about the shipping costs.

If you are concerned about cost, there is another route you can go. Zuma Canyon Orchids in Malibu has a thriving decorate display business. They contract with hotels, businesses and upscale private homes to keep a number of pristine orchids on display at all times. When they are out of bloom, or even beginning to fade, they serve no longer any purpose for Zuma. They are sold as low as $5.00 each.

I don't know if you get tags or if you get to choose colors but you can score some cheap Phaelies which are in prime condition and will bloom a year from now if looked after properly. Remember, when they were in bloom, they were good enough to grace the lobby of Marriott or some expensive home.

Oak Hill has a good number of Phal species, some difficult to find, and some hybrids. Of course, the lower priced plants are seedlings. Getting ready to put in another order in the next day or two; they got in a few new ones I have wanted.

Nick -- thank you so much for this info about Zuma. I was SO excited. I sent them an email after looking over their website and got this response:

"Unfortunately we do not ship out out "out of bloom orchids". We do sell fully bloomed out orchids here at our nursery, but do not ship them due to how easily they are damaged.
Sorry for any inconvenience, and thank you for thinking of us."

I was so disappointed. I wish i had family in that state and they could buy it and ship it to me:-(

I'll also vouch for Oak Hill Gardens. I purchased @10-15 phal species seedlings from them about 3 years ago. These were the $6-$10 (2", 2 1/2" or 3" pots) ones they list on thier site. Almost all have now bloomed at least once and several are really doing well. They have very nice paph species seedlings also, very affordable especially if you go with one of their 'seedling packages' which usually run in the neighborhood of $30/10 plants, their choice of course.

I placed an order with them for a 'Mini Mark', a bellina seedling (man can I 'Kev' bellinas quickly...) and a paph last weekend, looking forward to receiving them in the next day or so.

I talked to Zuma this morning. The plants are totally bloomed out, tags provided, assortment (their choice) possible, no requests but a minimum of duplication only depending how many are ordered. Plants are $5 each. Come in a pot with moist Sphagnum Moss so shipping may be 2 to 3.00 per plant, don't know. If you want some let me know how many, but remember it's a grab bag.
