What happened to justice?

Lawyer got the official report on the jerk that hit our girls. Since 1977 he has had 4 DWIs and some speeding thrown in. I am SO disappointed in the judicial system, or lack thereof. That's ok, we know we're in this for the long haul. Even our lawyer said he wouldn't want to be on the streets with jerky.

Thank God for you guys and his love too.

I worked as a dispatcher for a small town police department for a very short period of time. When I processed an arrest for DUI I would always, always, always, look up that person's record on every system I had access to. If I found a previous DUI, I printed it and stapled it to the arrest record so the judge would have that information. Even now not all the systems talk to each other and people just don't go to the effort.

Then, they hire lawyers and cry about the difficulties in their life - no one is responsible for their actions anymore I guess - and get off or get reduced sentences. Or they keep getting the court date pushed back and are actually on the street for months, sometimes years before they go to court.

The very biggest reason that nothing is done about DWI is that the public officials themselves are drinking and driving.

Thats why the sentences are much stricter for drug use, you cannot go around passing laws that could get yourself locked up.

When you know you or your co- workers are drinking and driving it is a good reason to not pass laws that will ensnare you, much better to go after those other people that are not killing people but rather using it in their own house.

Personally I would give life sentences for third time offenders. When they complain that they have a disease I would suggest to them that they find a cure or we will.

More than a month has passed since I updated this thread so here goes.... I had mentioned that I planned to write that letter to the other mother, but at this point I still have not done it. First, I want to make absolute certain that DD is still having contact with her, but have not been able to substantiate it as of yet. Of course I -know- their friendship remains intact, just no proof. It's not as often as it had... no where nearing being as often since she now has returned to seeing her other friends. DD attends a community college, going to the Gateway to College Program. This is a satellite campus with stores surrounding it. Her hours are 8AM to noon, and I take her and pick her up. One day last week she called and told me she had a ride home with another student. I told her fine, but still went to the campus anyway. After waiting awhile, I finally called her cellphone and she said she was on her way home... class had gotten out early. So, the next day I got the same call.. she was riding home with another student so I made sure I got there early. Saw DDas she was coming out the door and she stated that she was waiting for the other student to finish up. I pulled off, circled around and came back. Just 8 parking spaces from the campus door sat the other mother. This is what I had been expecting. So, I got out of my car, asked her where DD was, she asked me how the "f" was she suppposed to know. Well, I was livid and got in my car and pulled off, my phone ringing. Of course it was DD, mad because she saw me go to the other mother's car. And I can not prove that the other mother was there to pick up DD. Anyway, DD ended up riding home with me. Hasn't called to tell me she was riding with another student. If I get one of those calls, I'll be checking up. It's not time to back down yet. Other than that, things are going fair. She comes home on time, goes to school daily, makes all her counseling sessions. But, I never know where she is when she's gone during the day. I have not been successful in getting her to check in with me. This is something she will answer to her PO for.

There IS justice! I remember older DS's StepMom seeming surprised when I mentioned some behavior concerns I had about Sonny and how I was handling them at my house. Seems he was always a 'perfect little angel' for her!... Then, the following year when DS moved to Ex's house and SM had him every day, she finally saw what I was talking about and called to ask my advice for dealing with those very same issues. At which point, I was able to laugh and tell her that now I didn't see those problems, and now I had the perfect little angel! Seems only the custodial parents got the headaches ;-) As it turns out, that was the beginning of the strongly positive shift in our relationship, where we began to trust each other and take each other's word for things -- even when it conflicted somewhat with what we saw with our own eyes. After that, DS didn't stand a chance. His BM vs. SM manipulations no longer worked...

Thanks Robo. I appreciate it. There wasn’t a lot of information released to the public because apparently there was a gag order on it. Recently however, documentary on Oxygen was able to share a lot more information. As it turned out, Mary, the head nurse had discovered that many patients were receiving an fairly dangerous immune builder who didn’t need it. She canceled their treatments and made Fata aware. But it really alarmed her so she told another physician working there, Dr. Mungulay. He said Fata wouldn’t let other doctors near his patients, but while he was on vacation, Mungulay ended up treating one of his patients at the hospital anyway. She was newly diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and had just broken her leg. However, when he looked at the chart there was no pathology report and her bloodwork was in normal range. She didn’t have cancer. He took that to the clinic manager, who then did some digging and found even more inconsistencies. He went to an Attorney for whistle blowers, who then called the Justice Dept. Fata was arrested within 5 days of that call. And the reason they charged him with Medicare fraud instead of murder and charges directed at the pain he’d caused, the Justice dept said they knew they could prove the fraud case faster. It helps now to have a clearer understanding of what happened. Thanks Neetsie, this happened several years ago, there’s just been some documentaries about it on tv so my old threads have been revived

I am not against drinking. I used to drink my share and don't have a problem with people drinking. I still do have a drink on occasion. But so many people drink and drive. And I can even forgive a driver who's had a drink or two. But when you are so loaded you hit three girls walking in the grass and one of them happens to be my daughter, I want to see you suffer. And when you've had past DWIs and speeding offenses, I take strong offense.
Lance, I have learned so much negative factors about the so called judicial system. After seeing how things go, I can understand how this jerk got away. BUT no more. I am keeping a check on him and if the law cannot serve us right, our lawyer and I will attempt to take everything he has. So, is the law now in our hands.

Carla I was on a jury involving a drunk driver. His back history was completely kept from us. Unfortunately for him he took the stand in his own defense. During questioning by his attourny he stated that he was proud of his x number year driving record.

Trouble was he was about ten years older than me and his great driving record that he was so proud of was ten years less than mine. Afterwards it turned out that he had several convictions beyond where his great driving record started.
