Kitchen window box

View of the new hot tub area from the garage. When we decided to site the tub here I was concerned that it would be the first thing people would see when they came to the door but you wouldn't believe how many people asked "What hot tub?" last night when we mentioned we had one.

BANANA! Tom painted the garage door lavender but it looks light blue in all the pictures.

Front door and a real Schnauzer welcome.

Charles Grimaldi is definitely not as florifeous this year as last even though the entire plant wintered over dormant in the basement.

Enough already, right?

Sue, THANK YOU! I loved going through these. Everything is looking so tropical and lush! One of my all time favorite gardens. I wouldn't get tired of seeing it if you posted pictures every week. Never enough of this eye candy! Oh and the lavender door is a nice touch (says the person with purple doors).

Ree - I refrained from commenting on the other thread. I think anyone who is doing a lot of renovations gets blindsided at least once on the final cost, no matter how much experience we have working with contractors and the trades. We have had quite a bit of tile done lately & I have learned alot - My opinion - you did not over pay for his work! He did a spectacular job!! Watching my tile guy - a professional - much of the 1st day (after the cement board) is spent on the layout. It is brain work - alot of math and figuring out the exact placement of the grout lines & cuts. Your guy made sure you ended with full tiles at the top and bottoms, your corners are 1/2 matching tiles ( no little slivers), he had alot of small notches, and cuts - everything is lined up & level. He did a wonderful job! I think 4 days was good - and he didn't have a helper. He had to do all the measuring, dry fitting,marking each tile, and the cutting. Enjoy the backsplash, I think it is gorgeous, and I love the placement of the inserts. I would have paid that much, but I am in an area of the country where the costs are high. The price you paid will be a distant memory, while you will always look at that backsplash with admiration.

Wow--thanks again, everyone. I guess sometimes I just wonder if I'm doing things right. You know, you get used to seeing the same thing day after day, so you just get used to it, even if it's hideous! I do love having a morning room. It was the ONE thing that my husband insisted on when we built the house, and I'm so thankful now that we did! funkyart: the flowers on the table are fresh cut from my garden...I've been working on a perennial/cutting garden for a few years now and it's finally paying off!! We're actually in WV, on the border of MD, but most of my family is from PA, so we know Boscovs. It is gorgeous...we're on our way to the pool as soon as I'm off the computer! parma42: I like the idea of putting 2 pictures there. That would fill the space more. I'll have to be on the lookout for a good deal (which I love to do!!). daisyadair: thank you! The window treatments are actually from Lowes. They are single straight valances, but I pinned them together and added the little pull up part in the middle. It was one really straight long line when we first hung them, so I'm happy they turned out. The desk I found at Home Goods, and it was 20% off b/c it had a little scratch on it (which I fixed easily with a black permanent pen). I'll hand the desk over any day to you, if the bills stacked on it can go with it!! :) bodica: Thank you. So you saw my next room we are working on too!! The color is SW Pennywise. I fell in love the picture that is hanging in there, and worked the room around it. I did the first floor bathroom in SW Spicy Hue (which is one shade darker) as well. Once the house is clean, I'll post more pictures. Oh, and I should give my DH credit for the crown molding/chair rail and picture frames on the lower half of the dining room. He just finished them a few weeks ago. :) Here's my 2nd attempt at the pictures:

Wow, thank you, everyone, for your kind and encouraging words. Having spent countless hours, taking notes from this site (even when I knew some things were impossible to achieve in this kitchen) and quietly admiring all of your beautiful kitchens, from the big, jaw-dropping ones to the smaller, but oh so lovingly personalized ones, it means a lot to me and my SO that so many of you like what we've done so far. As newbies to all of this, we questioned every single small decision we made, and then questioned it some more, never quite sure if we made the right choice--especially going with practically the same color floor and cabinets--so it's great to get some positive feedback. Except the soffit. We never questioned that decision. We knew those had to vamoose! You should see the ones we took out of the bathrooms! EEEeeeeek! Anyways, thank you so much!

Ok, here is the 'Green Soapstone' Granite I am looking at--Pics

This is exactly what I think it is--serpentine. Yes, they do call it a granite--again, artistic license as I've learned about this industry now. So, it's not a soapstone OR a granite but they call it a "green soapstone granite". I purposely didn't pick marble (even though I LOVE it) because I knew how messy my two boys and I are, and thought we would ruin it in no time (also because I am going with a bit more rustic of a look and can't use white marble). It is gorgeous. However, I a tempted to just to the verde tunas granite (polished) which might be a nice contrast to my matte slate floor and matte stone wall. Also, I know exactly what I am getting. I am afraid with the serpentine I would stain it or etch it if it's like a marble. I have hounded the granite people (IMC-a HUGE granite yard)about this and they also have it in a leathered finish and then this honed finish. Verde Tunas isn't my dream granite or anything but it's calm enough (reads like a solid color and won't compete with what I've got going on) that it might "go the best". Everybody says how gorgeous this is, yet no one has picked it for their kitchen. That being said, I am wondering if there are a lot of people who do actually have this "green soapstone" granite that think they have soapstone (though you couldn't oil it)???

Sue, yabba dabba do!!! Just wonderful! I love them all, I'm so sad I missed your party yesterday. All the plantings look so lush and perfectly maintained. I'm never, ever going to believe you again when you say things are a mess. I just love all the window boxes and that banana! Very cool!

OK I'm going to stop typing and go and look at all these photos again.

Do gardeners ever get tired of fabulous garden pictures??? These are fantabulous! I'm glad that you posted pictures for us so that all your hard work really gets appreciated. This was my first year with castor beans. They are pretty cool. Yours is sited well. I put several in large containers as well. Thanks again for the tour.

Gorgeous, lush, tropical -- wow, you're really doing a lot with annuals too -- it's gives it such a lot of punch! You must work very hard every nite to keep up with it, Sue. Thanks for sharing -- it's looking like stills for a garden mag layout!! I adore how you've masked the hot tub area -- it truly is another little garden room.

Beautiful photos Sue! We had a great time on Saturday evening and both hubby and I enjoyed our stroll around the ENTIRE garden.

Most of the plants that Sue and I have in common are so much larger in her garden. What is in the soil there LOL?

The variegated colocasia (by the Schnauzer in the front door) looks like mine, including it's size.

Thanks folks! Sometimes I go through periods where I just don't like any of the pictures I take and stop taking them altogether. Now that so many plants are getting the end of season ratties, the photo ops are going to be less and less.

Monique, you and Les were just about the only guests the other night who spent any time looking at the garden. I don't know why some of my plants get so big. Mindy was saying the same thing when she was here in June. I don't water any more than I absolutely have to and the soil in the older garden areas isn't anything exceptional. Maybe it's the part shade-stuff doesn't get as stressed?

Sue, Your gardens and hardscapes all blend so well together. It just looks great to me. I have problems with plants getting tall here. I think it is because of shorter sun time. The sun goes over a ridge to the west. We never get to see a sunset here.
