LOL..feeling like a pin cushion,are you? For those who get flu shots here,they have drive by places where you stick your arm out the window and get zapped. I didn't know that.

Well I too got the Novocaine today but no other shots! (Except the one to the check book for the mouth guard I need and fixin' a cracked tooth) Don't think I could take 3 shots in one day!! Need to get the flu shot and need to get my dad for his..............
Guess gettin' it over with in one day makes sense though.

That's a couple of shots too many for one day. Thanks for reminding me to get a flu shot. I just called my Dr's office to check what day.

Does it make you feel like you're back in the service? You know the routine. Line up with techs on both sides of you, each one of them pumping your arms full of 'stuff' as you walk down the line. LOL.

I found my old shot records going through some papers. My God, I have had vaccines against stuff for traveling I don't think the diseases even exist anymore. LOL.

Calliope, I just had to laugh at your remark about the shots in the army. As dependent I went through some of that too, but my best one was 1950 when I came as exchange student to the US. Besides the usual, smallpox, typhus, typhoid and so on, I also got a shot against yellow fever, beri beri and something against the plague and malaria. Required by the State Department!

I had a bunch of shots this morning.
I had to have a skin cancer taken off my upper lip.
My lip felt like those big fluffy lips you see on the
*stars* now and then. It hurt like #e!! when he put the first one in and then it got better.

I've had a couple of SC taken off my face but that thing on my upper lip really was aggravating.
Hopefully when it heals I won't have another one.

I've seen the ads for the flu shots and we'll be getting those soon.

Oh dear, it's flu shot time again isn't it? I'd best call up the doc & get mine. I just hope this year's dose is more effective than last year's.

I don't do flu shots. The side effects are guaranteed, the effectiveness isn't. I keep homeopathic oscillococcinium on hand. I got the flu last year, I took two doses of three pellets each and spent a total of four hours sick in bed. Since I have gotten the flu once a decade in my life, I figure that I'm good for another nine years. I won't get the shot then either.

I was in Walgreens today and they had a sign advertising a "flu clinic" in 2 weeks.
I asked if that was the only time they could do it....they said they could shoot me right then....so I did. The pharmacist did it....and I don't think I have ever had such a painless shot before!
Easy! and if it decreases my chances of getting the flu by 10% I am glad to do it!

Wow. I guess I'm not willing to take a potential 10% decrease in the chance of getting the flu vs. a 100% chance of the long-term detrimental health effects of a vaccine that operates by shutting down my immune system to give me a low grade version of the flu. There have been studies showing that people who get regular flu vaccines have a greater occurence of Alzheimer's. And there are many anecdotal reports of autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis occurring shortly after receiving the shot.

Not to mention the chemical preservatives being injected into my body for an unsure benefit. I don't do other vaccines either, for myself or my dogs.

To each his own I guess.

I really suspect it depends on one's suseptibility to the flu. Maybe in combination with mental outlook, thinking that if you won't get it, then you won't get it.

I haven't had a real flu since the year I came down with HongKong and Victoria (?), in succesion. That was a really bad winter, lol. I've taken shots, and gotten severely ill afterwards, each time. The doc said the shots were dead bugs, so that no matter how flu-like my illness, it wasn't really the flu. Uh huh. Seeing as how I saw immediate consequences following each shot, I stopped getting them, and guess what? no more flu-like illnesses. I get colds [from someone who has one] and I get the occasional tummy bug [always traceable to someone...] but not the flu. I'll bypass the shots this year as I have for the past decades, and if I do get the flu, please feel free to say " told you so."

I never had a flu shot until I had one, work mandated, for the swine flu. The next one was during chemo and I was advised to get one each year since. The last time I might have had he flu was 58 yrs. ago. Think I should just skip it? I don't get major colds either.

I've had one flu shot, followed by the worst case of the flu I ever had, around the time of the swine flu. I was in my mid-twenties. A near 65-year old co-worker of mine religiously had his flu shot every year and religiously had a very bad case of the flu every year. I distrust the efficiency of the vaccines and feel that they have definite benefits but also bad side effects in SOME individuals. Especially some infants that later have learning disabilities, etc. My youngest DD had a seizure a few hours after her first vaccination, followed by several the next few years. She was totally healthy in the months before the vaccination. I think they are a good idea for most folks, but highly controversial for others. My other three kids had no problems.

Wow, plantphreak...shuts down the immune system? I didn't know that? Can you tell me how that works?
I thought this was a killed virus vaccine?

oh no..the annual flu shot thread. If you get them you are doomed and if you don't you are dooming everyone else. I always see these threads as the beginning of cabin fever season. Things at the GP are going to be going down hill from now until spring. Saints preserve us all.

LOLOL. I had one really bad case of flu back in the fifties. I was just a kid, and thought I was going to die. My poor mother was just frantic. I do remember the doctor made a house call, and he was one of the towns most illustrious surgeons. I would love to have heard what she said to him to get him to do that. I guess it was Hong Kong flu, he prolly didn't want my butt in his office spreading it around.

The only other time I had flu was about seven or eight years ago, and I was running myself ragged with just a couple of hours of sleep a night. That was just a compromised immune system from fatigue and stress. Got well, and then relapsed.

I do take the vaccine. Shall continue taking it until I find out it's made in a third world country. But, I have a very strong immune system, and avoid exposure in flu season. If you aren't exposed to a carrier, you won't get it....it's that simple. Problem is, most people who must work away from home don't have that option. It would be a big help if employers would stop insisting their workers come in....sick or well.

I get the shot, especially when I was working as I worked with the public. I have read that it is not that you won't get the flu, but if you do it's not suppose to last as long or be as severe. I want to get one this year and have to get my dad to the doctor for his. With 2 loved ones in a nursing home we have to be as careful as can be.

Ok, how about the pneumonia vaccine? Last year I was in the hospital and hadn't had a flu shot. They gave me one and also gave the pneumonia vaccine. Anybody get those?

I don't do flu-shots either, even though I am definitely one of the Elderly who are supposed to be in danger.
I live alone, don't go out in public a lot and don't hang out with little kids, they are real germ-factories!
Have not had flu since the eighties, when I was still living in more crowded conditions.
Cold? some times, but they never last long. I do use homeopathy and herbal remedies and keep my immune system in good condition.
