Care and feeding of a swamp cooler.

Today is probably the hottest day of the year so far. Temp in the 'cool' house went over 80, so I talked to the company that made my swamp cooler. They suggested changing the evaporation pads even if they look good.

I need 3 of them 20" x 30", that would be $60 plus shipping. I found a roll of the stuff locally 30" x 20' for $40. That allows me to change them out 4 times @ $10 per rotation. It took less than 30 minutes to do the maintenance and I definitely feel that it is working better. Temp is down to 80F.

Point of this is that even if the pads look good, one should change them at least every 6 months for max performance or even more often, it is dirt cheap and only takes a few minutes. The more open the air channels are, the more air it will move and the better it will work. If debris clogs up half the orifices, the pads may still look good but give inferior performance. My pads still looked good but I'm glad I changed them out.
