Why does everyone have such good luck with Skippy Filter??
Comments (12)Plants & Patience is the key. Follow Anne & Jenny's advice; their experience is invaluable. Trust me on that, they have both helped me immeasurably (thanks ladies:) Do.not.give.up. The skippy is a great start. Now on to the plants. It does NOT have to be wallet-draining. Start w/the watercress from the gro store as suggested. Sprig a few in your skippy & put the rest in the pond. You will be amazed. I'm not familiar with your zone so can't offer specific suggestions. I will add I like to experiment with terrestrial plants in the pond to see what works. Some do, some don't, but I have been amazed at some of my successes. (yeah, and the *experts* who say it's not possible miss it sometimes;) I just dig up what's thriving in my yard & try it...hey...the price is right...FREE! I'm adding a link below. Hopefully, something there will work for you. Stay away from chemicals & additives (other than declor) unless you have an emergency in which your fishies are in danger. They just drain your funds and are temporary measures at best. Always better to correct the problem itself rather than treating *symptoms*. You'll be enjoying your pond soon...have faith! blessings, ~digger Here is a link that might be useful: terrrestrial plants in pond...See Morepictures of my pond - warning! lots of pictures
Comments (27)Thanks again everyone for the very kind comments! As far as breaking the 11th commandment, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's pond, well, I'm very guilty of that one. It is all the pics on this site that I've examined with almost stalker-ish fanaticism that has given me so many ideas and inspiration! Okiee-I'm using a 20 watt Pondmaster UV light and a discontinued filter that I got for very, very cheap (the Hozelock trinamic). The filter is rated for ponds up to 3000 gallons with heavy koi loads. As my pond is only about 1200 gallons, I think it's doing its job of keeping the pond very clear! LOL I oversized the filter because I know that my pond is overstocked. Lisa - I am going to be adding a 500 gallon addition to the pond this fall to hopefully give the koi some extra breathing space to grow. But, I know that because of the small size of my pond - even with the addition - I will have to likely have to part with some of my koi eventually. A local cafe/pottery shop/artist's retreat has several ponds with koi. I might ask them if they want some of my koi if they outgrow the home I can give them. I'm also planning on hooking up with some other local water garden societies so I can meet people who may welcome some adopted koi. I just want to make sure they go to a good home someday. But, before I get ahead of myself, I probably should just try to get them through a Wisconsin winter!! LOL (see my post on overwintering koi under thick ice)...See MoreLCaroline's kitchen reveal - lots of pictures!

Comments (119)Hello. I know I'm coming to your kitchen party late, but your kitchen is very close to what I am thinking of installing. Maybe you can answer a few questions? I have almost settled on the Cambria Buckingham, but I am worried it will make the kitchen too dark. I am having cabinets made, the stain will be very similar to the cabinets you installed. My floor is a white/off white porcelain tile (existing). I don't have can lights, only pendants over the islad, sitchen sink and light from west facing windows. I would love to know how you feel about your backsplash a many years later? I am thinking of using a plain subway tile, but worried it is too plain for the gorgeous Cambria. Thanks for any help you can throw my way!...See MoreCalamity_J
