Small galley kitchen reveal--lots of pictures
Comments (56)Thanks again everyone! I enjoy cooking every night and spend a lot of time in there in general! Brooklyngalley--thank you! I just love the galley, and it flows so well! Bpathome--the placement was functional. At first I was going to place them all the same. Then I realized that the under sink would be different and my husband thought he would always pull the wrong way. I like them high for the drawers too. Very convenient. Deedles, the lights are Vaxcel Lighting SP53718 Spotlight Contemporary. I love them! They provide so much light. I loved that they were curved and had the square crystal glass. We do have task lighting too to avoid shadows. I love that we can direct the light. I have light directed into the pantry, the microwave, the bar area, and three directed at the stove/sink area. I am posting a link below. We bought the lights from Furgeson. Here is a link that might be useful: Kitchen ceiling lights...See MoreFinal Kitchen Pictures- Thank you Gardenweb!
Comments (24)Hi everyone, thanks for the questions and comments. Still looking for my remodel file to get y'all specific names and brands. Hopefully this weekend. athomesewing- Probably the Tapmasters. So convenient, and I have still never been to another house that had them. gooster- Paint credit goes to my wife, it was her pic. I argued for a different color... Her choice was clearly better. We tried around 30 samples... edb2n- Yes it is. And a favorite perch of the cats and our toddler! firsthouse_mp- Yes we did. Had the whole kitchen re textured and painted while it was gutted. momof3kids_pa- The flooring is actually a commercial grade vinyl plank! I know *gasp* vinyl! Extremely easy on the feet and back, comes with a lifetime warranty, and doesn't require glue to be put down; in case of a kitchen flood it can be pulled up and reinstalled later. Doesn't chip or dent, and has been gentle on our dropped dishes, which are not infrequent with a "helpful" toddler in the house. We have laminate and 50's red oak hardwood in the house... And this is far and away our favorite. BirchPoint- it all comes down to personal preference, there's no right or wrong. What I will say though is that when we had our first dinner party, some red wine and pomegranate juice was spilled accidentally and not caught until the next morning; one wipe with water and a paper towel, no staining....See MoreWhat do your stained or natural wood cabinets look like?
Comments (38)I just saw this. I have to tell you, stained cabinets never spoke to me. I'd come across a painted kitchen and "ooOOOoooooo," I'd softly quiver. ("quiver?" OMG. I said "quiver.") Anyway, that was until the day I stripped some vintage, beaded inset cabinets down to bare oak. Holy moly were they pretty. I antiqued them with a gray stain, then 2 different tones of brown to reach an incredible finish. Then, I stripped some of those horrible dark red/black cherry cabinets, again, down to bare wood. So absolutely beautiful. I've actually done the same finish now on 4 antique doors, too. LOVE IT. Now I have such a mix of wood in my kitchen it probably looks stupid, but I call it "eclectic." (No, it's not nice just because I did it. It's just that I can't decide now what to do!) But I don't want to repaint them. My point in all this? I love the pictures this question is provided. Thanks for asking. Also, don't be shy about Citristripping the finish off your cabs and restaining. It's a PIA, but incredibly do-able in place with Citristrip. Messy, but no longer flesh-eating. Just a thought....See MoreAlmost final, final reveal of my tiny, tiny kitchen
Comments (40)sf_treat - how do you like your floor? how is it holding up? I'm looking at some floors from hardwood bargains. the samples are impressive, but I'm in Philadelphia so I'm going to have to pay some pretty hefty shipping. The price is low enough that even with the shipping it will be reasonable compared to some other options, but I'm concerned about ordering something that I basically can't return. (I could but I'd have to pay ANOTHER shipping charge)...See Morea2gemini
