You get what you pay for. I have so many pots, i just make my own. I find it a lot cheaper.

I received 10 small native witch hazel seedlings, about 6" to 12". I'm going to plant a couple of them. The rest, I'm giving away or sell if I do not give all away. They are small and do not bloom yet. If I plant them in ground for a couple of years, then when I dig them up, the root system would be very large. There will be transplant shock. It is more work to grow in pots, and they grow slower. But easier to give away.

Thanks much. I was wondering about that, but got thrown off because a mature compound Ailanthus leaf has far more than five component leaflets. I guess the first leaves have only five leaflets?

first.. be careful digging back there ... especially if there are other utilities in that area ... that said.. its a good sized tree ... get it out of there NOW ... pot it.. if he wants to look around for whatever reason ... or plant it somewhere.. even if just for this season .... just dont give it a full season of root growth .. it wont be any easier to dig it out in fall ... and ... in fact.. i would just cut it flush to the ground.. and use a stump killer on it.. and not even bother messing around with digging in that area ... ken
