looking for a harsh dangerous chemical herbacide

to kill off a Ailanthus. People here should know who the enemy is. I've this Ailanthus with roots underneath a sidewalk, a concrete drive and a foundation to a garage. I need something wicked, bad, evil. What is the worst herbicide you can think of?

Hand pull!, again & again & again & again & again. Cause even if you spray something any seeds left in the soil will sprout later!
It can be done, it just takes time! It may not happen in one year or even two, it takes patience & persistence!

I use round up on most everything hard to get rid of. I drill a hole in the top of a coffee can and put the spray nozzle through it to control drift. (Remove nozzle and drill hole the same size as threaded area. Insert threaded area through hole and replace nozzle inside can.)

"but when I saw no progress with Natria..." They make some of the most useless products, but consumers want them. A lot of them are nothing more than canola oil (literaly, like just canola oil and water). They market them as if they actually work well when the truth is that though many may help, it's overall effectiveness isn't...well, it's not very effective. I've seen a lot of people burning their plants up using Natria applications with oil in them at improper times as well as pest problems these formulations can't tame...mostly, I've seen people waste a lot of money on things they could mix into a spray bottle themselves.

Great posts all. These chemicals are so dangerous and so many are so unaware or couldn't care less. Years ago my aunt's cat was diagnosed with sclerosis of the liver disease. She jokingly stated that her cat didn't drink. Her veterinarian asked if the cat went outdoors and told her that the disease probably developed due to exposure to her neighbors lawn that was treated by ChemLawn. My husband works for the utility company. They sprayed Roundup several years ago to kill some weeds at one of their job sights. NOTHING has grown there since. We use no chemicals in our yard but have very few honey bees although we do have lots of bumblebees. My crab apple tree had plenty of spring blossoms but has virtually no fruit due to lack of honeybees. We have no lawn, just flower beds and gravel paths on about 1/4 acre of our 1 acre lot. The rest is woods. I don't know if the lack of bees is due to our being in such a wooded environment or if there is something else going on. We have plenty of dragonflies and butterflies so it may be that honeybees like a more open area rather than dense woods. I bought Bayer 3 in 1 once and never used it when I reasoned that there was no way for the pesticide to distinguish the good bugs from the bad. I now deal with the insect damage if not too severe and try to manually kill the damaging insects when they start to overwhelm the plants. When you look at the seeming explosion of cancers in our generations, 1959, and later it's difficult to not question whether this is due to the fact that we are poisoning our food with this toxic arsenal. I know several women who have had breast cancer but don't recall any of my mother's friends being diagnosed with this disease in their 40's and early 50's. 2 of my 6 grandchildren are mildly autistic, one also suffers severe food allergies, a third was diagnosed with cancer at age 9 1/2. It really makes you wonder if the explosion of allergies, autism and cancer diagnosis is related to the explosive use of such toxic chemicals that contaminate our air, water and food. Massachusetts is considering passing GMO labeling laws so at least the shopper will be aware of whether the food they eat is GMO or not. Monsanto is now making GMO grass seed so soon even grass fed beef will not be safe from contamination. What is scariest though is the apathy and indifference among most people who either don't know or don't care about all of the toxins being introduced to our foods and water supplies. I recently purchased some David Austin roses from a nursery in NY. She recommended both disease and insect spraying. I might spray for disease if absolutely necessary but adamantly refused to spray for insects. Her anecdotal response was that she has plenty of insects around so she really couldn't believe that she was having an impact on the ecosystem. What would happen if we all felt this way? Sharon

AWWWW, Thank you PJ your so sweet to say that. I've been watching way to much HGTV LOL.......I've got no color but want color but I'm scared of color.... I'd love to remodel the kitchen and family room to add an area to sit and eat. My kitchen has no flow SEE told YA I was watching HGTV BAHHHHAAA. We've got way to much junk and I don't know how that happened hahaha....To many garage sales......I have sworn off of them cause I can't fit one more thing in the house, in fact I'm trying to talk DH into doing the garage sale when our HOA has it so we can get rid of all the junk I've hauled in. Don't know if I'll have much luck getting DH to let go of any of his stuff but then the last time we did a garage sale he got so excited making money he grabbed the saw horses and sold them for 10 bucks, the next time he went to change the oil in the mower he was looking for those saw horses and I had to remind him that he sold them. DH likes to fill up any empty drawers he can find, it's free game for him to see how fast and how much he can fill it up. The last time I emptied out the kitchen drawer so that the stuff wasn't falling or spilling out the back down into the bowls below, he filled it up within a few days so I gave up trying to keep them neat.

Last night, while attending a meeting of the investment group, I took a good slide, due to freezing drizzle. As we came out of the building, I went to step back up on the sidewalk and my feet went substantially out from under me ... ... but I had a bag of books in my hand, and they swung, so that I was able to catch myself before I hit the ground totally. No bad effect, and a couple of the participants asked if I was O.K. Not even a strained muscle. I often travel part way with a friend, but we didn't meet at his house last night: got together at a store, on the way. There was ice to clear from his car after the meeting and when I got back to my car, ice to clear from it ... and I had inadequate equipment to do the job. I've had some extra coats in the car for a while, and yesterday, aware that I wasn't properly equipped, put my sleeping bag in there. Slipped off of the lane going out, was shovelling, and a guy from the road came in to help, tried to push me, then pulled me out with his truck. Carried a shovel with me all day ... had left the other in the snowbank where I'd been shovelling: it's in the car, now. Need a scooper for shovelling snow, a shallow one for pulling snow out from under the car. This morning it's to be the ice scraper that gets into the car with me. I'm to pick up my custom-made squeezee socks for varicose veins, then attend the ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Coffee Hour (I call it the "Old Farts' Club"). Then deliver native ciggies to my friend and pick up my new cell phone that he's been configuring for me ... that, being an old guy, living alone, I've been ordered to carry with me at all times. (so ... I guess that I'd better get an old bag to carry it in). Good wishes for getting through the bad weather with minimal deleterious result ... and have a really fine New Year, everyone! ole joyful

An organic gardening forum is not a place to look for a harse, dangerous, chemical herbicide. Anyone that would suggest any is not an organic gardener.

Kimmsr, Kimmsr, Kimmsr. As I noted in the OP, you should "know your enemy". Apparently that aphorism comes from as far back as 6th century BCE.

...anyway... I don't think the strength of the product is as important as proper and timely application of it, according to label directions, and after confirming that the product is lethal to your "enemy". This may include using it more than once. There are methods of using a product that don't require one to spray it all over everything, or even into the soil. If you could post a picture of the criminal plant/tree, you will likely get the most appropriate and specific answers possible from the manual and chem options.

What about investigating halfway options, like syringing vinegar into a freshly cut stump, or rubbing salt on the cut. I don't know if either of these work, but it seems like something less toxic should, and I hope you get some of those suggestions. It is true that if you continually remove any foliage you see, your plant will die.

It IS inflammatory to ask this question in this forum. Wish it were posted elsewhere. If these forums had a moderator, it would have been moved before instigating unnecessary controversy. Or were you trying to stir something up?

Albert, try posting this in the Tree Forum. There are many people over there who are educated in the careful use of herbicides. Since Ailanthus is much loathed, I'd expect that you'll get the assistance you asked for.

Boards commonly have a certain fussbudgetness or stick/kiester syndrome or element. Some people find it irresistable at times to poke fun at it a bit. You might have asked "Is Agent Orange still available in the military surplus market? [text]I have half a forest of weed trees I want to kill for my kid's garden plot. If Agent Orange is all gone now, what else kills like a chemical Genghis Khan? And keeps them killed?"

I've been planning to rename my band. I think I'm going to go with "Stick/Kiester Syndrome" or "Chemical Genghis Khan". Thanks for the ideas! I was totally stuck.

Judging by the names you're considering, is your band quite 'heavy'? 'Paraquat's pretty hardcore...
