Well, i would not suggest any chemical fertilizers for to get rid of weed. Since the purpose of these products is to kill pests, you can bet that many of them have ingredients in them that are also harmful to humans. For example, the active ingredient in Round-UpÂa weed-killer popular with gardenersÂis known to cause kidney damage and reproductive harm in mice. And cypermethrin, one of the active ingredients in the popular ant and roach-killer Raid, is a known eye, skin and respiratory irritant and has negative effects on the central nervous system. The Bermuda was covered for 8 weeks. We have not yet removed the plastic because I'm not yet sure if we should add topsoil or remove all of the dead bermuda first. I looked under the plastic, and all of the bermuda and weeds are white and dead.

sye, this sound like a job for a spray bottle of RoundUp RTU. You can purchase the product at any garden center; it's already mixed up and ready to use. Read and follow all directions carefully for best results. You only need a tiny bit for get the job done. Apply on a sunny day, in the morning preferably. It may take a day or two for the systemic herbicide to kill the weed all the way to the roots. You can also try a spray bottle with pure vinegar...on the hot sunny day...to see if that burns the weeds. Vinegar won't kill the roots, though. Please, please don't pull apart the patio in order to clean the bricks! It will never be the same again. Your picture didn't come through. Maybe you could post it again. It might be helpful if we could see identify the weeds to know just what you are working against.

Flippant answer: you don't need RoundUp, Total Wipe-out (not 'regular' wipe-out, that's just 7% vinegar with a 500% markup) might work too! Slight more but still not too serious, you can buy 'cleaning' (10% acetic acid) vinegar in large quantities fairly cheaply, that will kill many plants, both when sprayed on leaves and allowed to soak into the soil. Or (pay someone to) roto-till the whole lot and cart everything away. ----------------------------------------------------------- I have relatives dealing with similarly invasive plants, changing the environment or just mowing down everything with lawn mowers/weed whackers was all that could keep it in control. Years of pulling stems/vines was not enough.
