Cena, What do you mean by "moss"? Are you growing outdoors? If so, what's the climate? You mentioned Andy's--are you living in Calif? A little background info is helpful.

Your pseudobulbs look good. I like the slightly yellowish tinge in the top photo. My Bifrenaria harrisoniae looks similar with pbulbs against the side of the pot and in the middle. I will repot next year. Generally, Bifrenaria don't like getting repotted. Expect the plant to NOT flower the year following a repot.

I use a fir bark based cattleya mix for mine. It works for me. It may not be appropriate for your conditions.

I grow out doors, mainly Cyms, intergnerics (lots and lots of those) a few freaks like Euplophia petersii, and get regular reblooms all the time. I'm about 60 miles from Andy's but that doesn't get me anything except a fairly long drive, and usually only to Cal Pacific Orchid Farms 'cause you gotta call ahead for an appointment to see Andy.

I NEVER use moss of any kind. I use various bark mixes (I mix each and every batch of planting medium specifically for what I'm replanting that day.) Mostly I use bark, size based to root thickness and density.

I've got a good base in General Plant Mechanics, based on the fact the next few plants are mine also. (As you can tell by the pot!)

I was mainly looking for how one would 'repot', whether one would jam the plant up against the side of the pot, whether one would use a basket pot again, and with the moss issue how hard it would be to untangle or even if it would be worth it, and which other medium one would use if it was so decided to be removed from the moss.

Let's start with the most important consideration--light. The conservative Charles Baker writes "...full morning sun with afternoon shading is indicated." Mine gets the full sun and starts seeing afternoon shade around 4 PM.

When I get around to repotting mine again, next Spring after flowering or any hopes of flowering, I will decide whether to divide it into pieces of at least 5 psb or greater. I will put each piece into a clay pot which has about 3 cm (1+") of free space in front of active leads. I will use fir bark based Cattleya mix from Oak Hill. Yes, it's expensive. It's excellent. That will hopefully give me at least two years of uninhibited growth before the pot rim challenges the plant.

Basket? If you have the humidity to maintain the plant year round in a basket, then I guess that's an option! It's not something that I have tried...yet! I have extra baskets at the moment. I might do that next year!! If I do, I will very loosely line the perimeter with some weathered coconut husk to keep the mix in place.

Your "moss"? I would get rid of it. But, that's me. You may have an attachment to it! :-)

I abhor moss, but I'm almost afraid to remove it, based on the new growth showing...

I very much appreciate your input on how you would do it.
We really do not have humidity here, but I doubt I will use a clay pot. I might go with a wood basket.
Will have to look into that Oak Hill mix.
