Okay I got the response from the local extension office and here is the diagnosis: "The pictures of actual fruit are showing symptoms of bird damage. Grackles and Starlings will visit the fruit when about the size of a dime and peck, scratch and scar the fruit to cover themselves with citrus oil which serves as a mite repellent. Unless you cover the tree at that time of the year with a bird netting, there is not much you can do. See: http://www.plantanswers.com/citrus_damaged.htm . The brown spots on your apple leaves are caused by a fungus of some sort. Most any fruit tree can be sprayed with Captan fungicide solution. Follow the label directions. Also, even some of the healthy leaves are yellowing, which indicates nutrient deficiency. Several things can cause the symptoms: 1) lack of enough nutrients in the soil; or 2) a root system that is not pulling in the available nutrients because of drought stress, too much water, and competition from weeds/turf grass. Even the fungal spots on the leaves may be worsened by a nutrient-stress issue. First, you may want to check the soil pH and nutrient level by submitting a soil test. Second, remove all weeds/turf grass 18" to 24" out from the main trunk and apply a light layer of an organic mulch such as leaves, dried grass clipping (from grass that hasn�t been sprayed with a broad-leaf weed killer). Third, monitor soil moisture to make sure that the trees are not too dry, nor too wet. Also, dried leaves on a living stem is a good indication of soil/moisture stress. Dried/dead leaves on a dead stem may indicate a canker or gall or wood boring beetle issue. Steve, this product is designed for young trees, and to give them a huge boost in their first 2 years in the ground, which is paramount for Florida citrus growers, who are constantly having to replace their trees due to Citrus Greening. The trunks many not get that wet, actually, The microsprinklers are set to spray away from the trunks. Not sure if we've got any commercial growers using this product up in the Central Valley, or, more applicable probably in the Imperial Valley, but I think it looks like a great idea, frankly. I might try some on my young trees. I wonder if it would also help keep snails out of my trees, if I could somehow keep snail bait in that outer lip. Very clever product. Patty S.

I saw some of these type thingy's on ebay a couple years ago. Never bot any, but I was curious too, at the time. Funny thing is that my elderly Mother who is 'a little kinda' into some natural, homeopathic and etc, fwd'd me an e-mail this past Fall saying put Vick's Vaporub on bottom of feet and then place socks on and sleep - to HELP remove toxins. I haven't done THAT either yet! But, I wonder if there is something to this. (I thought I might use big 4" squares of gauze taped to my feet and then socks over.) Anyway, if I try this, I will go for the Vick's method first. I've seen those pics of ugly greys, greens & purples on those 'day-after' pics...discusting! (I think if I had some of those foot pads, I would want to put a little moisture on them overnight to see if they turn colors-as a test. LOL!) Obviously, I'm not really motivated to pay for & try these things. However, I DO think there 'might' be something to this. Afterall, some people spend lots of money on their feet whether it be soaking, pedicures, massages, shoes, insoles, etc. And there are even the 'pressure points' on bottoms of our feet that, according to some, when proper message techniques applied, help the whole body function. But, who doesn't like pampering their feet? I say try it, and if it works...wonderful! Of not, well your feet STILL might feel good. (Just come back to post results! LOL!) OK, a LOT of people buy vitamins & supplements, etc., and don't really KNOW that they actually work...maybe there's a placebo effect going on? Maybe can be justified by blood & urine tests? MAYBE, it's state of mind. (I take care of myself, therefore, I feel better...and, I AM better.) I say go for it! It's not like a major expense...is it?!!! I have a little vaporub left that I've had for years...I will try that first. (altho- I don't know how active the vaporub is at this point! haha)
