Just reading mzdee's post about ditch lilies makes me laugh. There used to be a landscaper in the suite next to the office where I work and last summer he had a full truck load of ditch lilies, ready to take off to a job. I just thought "really?". Someone obviously didn't realize you can pull on up off the side of the road, throw it in the yard and you'll have an endless supply in no time. I have a ton in my back yard (came with the house). There's on particular patch that gets abused to no end... the dogs trample them, role in them, dig at them... And I have two pits and a husky so when the dig, run and role they REALLY go for it lol. These things barely even notice lol False lamium... I have it creeping under the privacy fence from the little woodsy area behind the house. It looks pretty in the pure-shade corner with the lemon balm. I just sigh when I look at it all in all its thug-glory

Is it clover or Oxalis, Jennifer? I canÂt tell from the picture, but thereÂs a good description at the link below. Both of them spread underground, and if itÂs Oxalis, when they produce seeds, they "shoot" them all over the place the same as sweet violets. Oxalis is a pervasive weed we were constantly fighting when I was in the green industry. Thank god I donÂt have any around here at this house, and whenever I buy something, I make absolutely sure there isnÂt any growing in the pot before I plant the whatever-it-is. Once you get it itÂs a nightmare. Since you want to get rid of itÂwithout chemicals!Âwhichever it is, I recommend TOTALLY saturating the ground, wait for it to completely soak in for several hours or over nite, and then very slowly pull/dig them out. "Slowly" in an attempt to keep as many roots attached as possible. Either will come back from any roots left in the ground. If the soil is soppy enough, you should be able to get quite a lot of it out, and then if you keep after it whenever it starts to grow back, you should be able to EVENTUALLY get rid of it. In areas where itÂs not growing into something you want to keep, yeah, go ahead and dig out enough soil to get all the roots and then replace it. That might take care of some major areas. But whatever you do, be absolutely certain you donÂt let any of it go to seed if it is Oxalis! Speaking of space invaders, if itÂlike bindweedÂgoes to seed, itÂs there ad infinitum! Skybird P.S. Ch-ch-ch-chia! And no, it isn't THAT bad. First, forget the home analysis of the soil, it doesn't tell you enough information to bother. I'm completely unable to design a repair scheme for the soil using those as they don't tell us the EC, saturation percentages, or anything about the lesser nutrients (which, although lesser, are still critically important for plant health). pH tests are particularly deceptive. You'd think they'd be useful since everybody has them. Nope. They tell me nothing about what's causing your pH, and whether calcium, potassium, or magnesium is the correct fix. Instead, get a $25 soil test through Logan Labs. This will tell me everything you ever wanted to know about your soil. Unfortunately, the Weed and Feed was a mistake. It went too early, so it's going to set off increased grass growth, which it's going to do by tapping the stored carbohydrates in the roots. Which will weaken the roots and reduce your summer performance on the lawn, including increasing summer losses. Grass does have a carb storage period in late spring, at which point growth slows and nitrogen is actually required. I'm going to recommend you feed again with a high nitrogen fertilizer at bag rate around Memorial Day. Depending on the results of your Logan test, that may change to another type of feeding (hint: I see an issue on that lawn, which means once I have the Logan test, it's likely to change). Although that technically overfeeds the lawn in spring (when it's not particularly hungry), it'll help repair the carb loss. The Weed and Feed is also not particularly good at the Weed bit of that equation. You're better off letting that work, and purchasing a bottle of concentrated Weed B Gon Clover, Chickweed, and Oxalis plus a 1 gallon sprayer. Mix it up, and spot spray what survives. It's not too late for a pre-emergent to inhibit weed sprouting in your lawn as well, but if you plan to seed in fall you may want to skip that. If you do it, use Dimension 0-0-7 to avoid adding any more nitrogen, or use a hose-end sprayer and apply Prodiamine 65DWG.
