Spittle bugs perhaps?

Ok that explains it because I soaked in cold water a few minutes then dried it in salad spinner. Then I laid it on a towel under ceiling fan to dry. Would it help to put lemon juice in wash water? Or use tepid water? I guess it's ok to use those leaves.
