starting from grass/soil amendments

I have about 6,000 sq. ft. of yard that I want to convert to garden area, asap. Any advantages or disadvantages of adding soil amendments like greensand, rock phosphate, and pelletized dolomitic lime to the grass first and then tilling?

I'm thinking it will be easier and quicker to push one of those cheap spreaders with their plastic wheels through the grass rather than soil that's already been tilled up.

I'd eventually like to convert to no-till raised beds; but I want to try and sneak in a late salad crop on about 1/3 of it and cover crop the rest.

Might ammending first also make for shallower tilling and fewer passes?

Thanks in advance for any input.
