My third grandbaby is due the end of May!

Now, where's Semper Fi to rename me again? Too bad I can't change my name on this forum twice, to include the new baby. :)

Poo! Congratulations! Wonderful! Oh! Babies are the best. Babies are so wonderful (she said, thinking of her own new granddaughter). Being a grammy is so wonderful.
Did I mention how wonderful it is when you are the grandma of a new baby?

Poo, I wish for you to be able to go and hold him/her lots of times during the first few weeks!

Leogirl, you are so right. That is all I want to do, just wrap my arms around him and not let him out of my sight. I have been a paid home respite carer for about 15 years, particularly with people with Alzheimer's, so I know the heartache some of you have had to deal with. I also know that my Glenn is suffering greatly emotionally and that he knows how devastating this is for all of us. He has put up his defences and won't even let his wife talk about his feelings yet. I have left messages on their phones today but so far have not received a reply and it is almost 11pm tonight. His father and I hope to be able to see him tomorrow. Glenn and I are so much alike and we have a deep understanding of each other. As much as I want him to talk to us, I also know that he needs to protect himself and distance himself for now. But as you all know, there is a difference in what we know with our heads and feel with our breaking hearts. My younger son is taking it all very hard. He and his wife are expecting their first child in June and his emotions are so mixed up between happiness and deep,deep sadness. I know the baby will be a blessing to us all but I find it almost impossible to think that far ahead just now. Glenn's wife Heidi and I are very close and she knows that she can call me at any time of the day or night. She has been strong but the truth is just sinking in for her. I wrote Glenn a letter about two years ago, just felt like doing it one day and I know that whatever happens, he has always known how much I love him. He loved the letter and he loves his Mum. Somehow, I feel that things are going to change this coming week and that is why I need to see him tomorrow. Thank you all for your caring words. Elspeth

It sounds like a typical guy. First, he has a bond with his own child so there is likely going to be more affection & nurturing and he hasn't formed that bond with your child. Guys are not generally as nurturing as women... we tend to take care of anybody & everybody but guys, not so much. But, guys tend to think of themselves as disciplinarian... and that is probably why he is ready to lay down the law and it's always easier to discipline someone else's child than our own. That being said, your son should be your first priority. It's time to have a serious talk and let him know how you feel. He may not realize he is doing anything wrong but left alone, resentments will grow. Your son may resent the attention the other child gets. You may eventually resent your boyfriend. If your talk does not result with an epiphany & his willingness to try harder, get him out of your life ASAP because the longer you work at trying to get him to change, the longer both children are going to subjected to instability. Both children have already been through one broken home and these issues probably should have been discussed before he moved in.

I cringe as I type this. I haven't left because I keep holding out hope he will wake up and start really loving them. This doesn't happen every single night and like I said, He is better- cringe- it just feels forced to me. Reading what I am typing sounds so crazy. I see why some women are so confused. Poo, I believe BIG congrats are in order!

Does the new GW regime still have the same policy regarding name changes??? Even so, I'm guessing that the iVillage folks would be willing to bend the rules a little if you contacted them via email and explained your situation.

For our typing fingers' sake though, I hope ya'll name the new grand baby 'Al' or 'Bo'! It'll be heck typing EricandanjoleeandChritophers_Poo!!! Of course, the upside would be that if we ever have a forum get together, everybody would be able to spot you right away because of your chest wide name tag!!! :-)))

Mary, I WILL be able to hold this one almost as much as my first, now that d-i-l & grandkids have moved closer to home. Even missing my son, I'm one happy Poo!!!

Mark, last I looked, it still said only one change. I never give thought to special priveledges, but it may be in order. Thanks for the idea. And don't worry about the long name, it will be simply, "Grandmapoo". :)

BTW, does everyone remember me telling you about Annjolee's arrival? Well, she just had her first birthday last week! Because they lived in Tenn, I missed out on a lot of her development, but not this one! Also, my son has arranged for leave for the baby's birth. :)

How long is this latest tour of duty expected to last? I know the earlier stints lasted anywhere from 10-14 months but I was under the impression that they were now trying to shorten the length to 7-9 months.

Mark, a yr. as far as we know. Depends on stop losses, etc. Could be longer. He was due to get out in Feb '06, as it is. He's already xtended by 6 mos. You know how it goes. This time the home front is also fighting hard...to convince him NOT TO RE-ENLIST!!! He's in his 7th yr. He has spent almost 4 of those yrs. deployed.
I just sent an e-mail, asking for a name change, BEFORE I read your post. Grandma_Cubed is cute, dangit! Wonder if they'll think I'm crazy if I ask for another change? Thanks. :)
