We're moving, again.

That's right. We're moving back out on our own again. We are going to sign a five year lease with no deposit on a 1400 sq ft double wide mobile home on one acre. It looks really nice on the inside and has two holes in the siding on the outside from a paintball attack (no paint). It comes with the washer, dryer, dish washer, stove, and fridge. It also comes with a riding mower, push mower, and a weed eater. There is also a huge workshop/storage building and a small, 8x8 metal tool shed. It's a walk away from a pond/small lake. After five years, the owners may be willing to do owner financing. It is a quiet neighborhood.We are going to be so happy to be getting out of my parents house. Oh, I'm sure that someone will ask, we are only paying $575.00 per month.

Good luck!! Sounds like a place with potential and I'm sure you will enjoy being on your own again. Great rent too!

I'll second Boone County Aroboretum as a "treasure." An absolutely wonderful institution, and quite unique. In Cincinnati we also have a world reknowned arboretum, Spring Grove, which is old and awesome, but Boone County is in some ways more useful and viewer friendly. It would not surprise me if BCA has a greater number of species already, and with much of it young you can get a great look at some of the plants before they get huge. Nursery wise, there are many good ones in the Greater Cincinnati area. Greenfield specializes in perennials, Natorp's and Sharon Nursery's are good full-spectrum nurseries. Marvin's Organic Garden's has a wide range of great stuff, a lot of it rare and unique. I think you'll find that this area of the midwest supports a surprisingly large pallette of plants, and, overall, that the seasons are nice. They each have their appeal. It helps to have a positive attitude when it comes to winter though. Books! A good primer is Denny McKeown's Complete Guide to Midwest Gardening. It would be a great place to start. He's the local gardening radio guru. Tracey DiSabato-Aust's The Well-Tended Perennial Garden is a very useful perennial book from an author 100 miles up the road in Columbus, Ohio. And Durr's Hardy Trees and Shrubs describes many temperate trees and shrubs, the vast majority of which can be grown here. Scott

Yes Chem treatments are very expensive and hard both on the person and the family. Our cancer center offers a variety help courses. Financial, support groups, monthly meeting, etc. You need outside interests beside school. Sounds like you have been a caretaker alot. What hobbies have you developed, do you belong and participate in any churches, organizations. Even if you took your daughter occasionally to meetings etc that would help. But you and your family must learn to be more positive etc. We have been dealing with cancer for 3 years, now in remission, and I refuse to let it or my family to control me. We work together. I have hobbies, belong to 3 different groups, have offices and keep busy. Yes I get upset and depressed, but not for long. Yes we do things together, and he cannot do much, but what he can do we try to do together, or with other people. We do not let cancer control us.

Yep David and dlynn, I'm looking forward to the cooler weather!! Since it's in the valley, the winters are generally pretty mild though this year was a record breaker for snow. The good thing about being retired and not having kids at home.... we can just watch the snow fall and not be worried about work, school etc!! In Louisiana today it will be 101... 102 tomorrow... and the humidity!!! We just got back from VA and while they thought it was hot it felt like spring to us!! Here's a picture of our new land and the homesite with DH Joe pretending to be a house. our back porch and deck will facing this view. Seems like we're out in the middle of nowhere, but we're a 5 minute drive from the center of town. We just got home from 5 days in VA where we brought up a load of "stuff" and put it in a storage pod. The estimate of 25K (!!!!) o move us to VA (not including our barn and outdoor things) got us so shocked that we decided to start combining our visits with bringing up a load of things in the horse trailer. We had the 3 horse section of the living quarters trailer full with things that we won't need even in a rental... extra garden tools, workshop things, outdoor decorations (birdfeeders/houses etc). DH lived in Outremont and I lived even further down from Queen Mary, more near the Van Horne area. I am soooo glad that I had weeded through things these past couple of years. It really is making a differene in my life now. I'm finding that it's been pretty easy to pack. DH has even gone through some boxes of stuff that I didn't know what to do with and have been lugging around from place to place. All of his stuff is packed. So far, there are 43 boxes packed. One thing that's helped me is when I get to the last of a set of boxes pertaining to a particular item, I've been leaving the last one open and putting things in there as I find the odd piece that goes in there. Then I repack it properly. We will be going this weekend to find a new place. Then I'll be able to figure out if I'll have any storage room for some of these boxes.

What a bargain! And congrats on your move, pondman! That place is bigger than where we're living right now, and I love the property.

It's not haunted, is it? LOL Sorry, too many episodes of Ghost Hunters...

Thank you, Brenda. The last rental that we had in Florida was a 1800 Sq ft DW mobile home on three acres and it was costing us $700 per month.

Looks like we'll be moving in 2-3 weeks. The ponds, plants, and fish will be moved and set up in four weeks.

That looks like it could be a really good thing for you. Even if you are grateful to relatives for their help, it can be a strain and getting out on your own can be a whole new world. Congratulations.

You wouldn't believe how stressful it has been. My family are a bunch of dumb Rednecks that don't care about my plants. To them, they are just weeds. My nephew's dog likes pulling marginals out of their pots, carry them to the front yard, chew on them a bit, and just leave them lying there to dry out. When we tell him about it, he just laughs. Anyhow, I have gotten to the point of wanting to change my last name. I might be over it by Christmas.

Mucky waters, thank you for the notice. It's always a shock when this kind of news comes along. I've missed his posts and was always glad when he dropped into the forum. Sad thing is it is probably too late to send condolences to his family.
