Oh dear, Leone - George sure has a series of mishaps there, it is often that way when a strong, independent person (Man) gets restricted because of physical set-backs, but apparently they just can't give in and use aids invented to prevent this sort of thing.
It is so hard for them! I am glad to hear he is usig a cane, that will help immensely. I am also glad to hear his balance is improving.
I know it's hard, I am practicing patience - need still a lot of practice. In order not to have someone fetch and carry all the time, I equippet my walker with a plastic bag, holding the phone, cough-drops, a pen (they seem to disappear all the time) and an old tool I call a "grabber" it extends to about three feet when unfolded and picks stuff up, Joann said all I need now is a holster and a sawed off shotgun LOL

Men! No, I don't need a cane. No, I don't need a walker over and over again. Untill twice in a day I had to pick him up from the floor and 3 times somebody picked him up in a parking lot and the street. Before the latest mishape, he used a cane now for a couple of years.
I am glad that George's balance is getting better. It's just not doing it fast enough in his opinion. Make sure that he uses his cane, even in the house.
Those grabbers are a great tool when you can't move as you would like to. We have several where my husband can get hold of them if he drops something, like at his desk, his chair and his bed and I have one since years in the kitchen and downstairs, since I never can get at things on the upper shelves w/o getting a small stepladder.

I think Leone meant that George isn't able to post because of his hand and shoulder.We'll probably be hearing from him before too long. From everything I've heard,broken collarbones are incredibly painful so he has my sympathy. What a rough year you both have had.

Leone, thanks for letting us know how George is doing.
May I suggest fixing stews and pasta dishes that the meat is cut before cooking or serving to keep you in your seat and help his self image. Sorry he has to endure this pain on top of every thing else. Of course it is likely the right side collar bone so typing with the left just gets tedious. Perhaps George could consider this an opportunity to improve his ambidexterity.

George, the pain killers are not another crutch but something to help you function. You do not need to hold on to the pain to remind yourself not to use those parts till they heal. Give yourself a bit of comfort, you deserve it. Get well, stay well and keep loving each other as you have all along as an example to those that read here.

Leone, thank you for letting us know how George is doing.
My sweet Neil is having a hard time right now so I know
what both you and George are going through.

Just taking things a day at a time helps and hopefully the rest will work it's self out.

My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

George, even IF you were a klutz, (which you aren't) you
are our's and we love you dearly. So there.

I'm so sorry to hear of George's mishap; but, Leone, thanks so much for letting us know. My thoughts and prayers--and of course, bushels of sun flowers--are coming your way.

Why are men so stubborn? My DH won't tell me if/when he's hurting; I catch a wince or grimace; I ask "What's wrong?" He invariably says, "Nothing"!

mwoods, you are probably right about why George would not be posting. I was worried when: "He said they will think I'm the worlds biggest klutz." I would never think of George as a klutz. IMO, he has more balance and dignity in his entire being than most people. So, George, if you can see your way to hunt and peck a "Hi". I'd be glad to see you post.

Guess if I would read again before posting I would know both sides are injured.

Oh! Dear! I am so sorry.....
And Tell George that pain actually hinders healing....and take the pain pills as prescribed.

George, please, please take your pain medicine. It makes healing much easier. When you hurt, you stress and stress slows healing. Been there, done that. Made that mistake ones, will not do it again.

Linda and Anneliese are so right. When your body is stressed with pain,it just isn't going to heal as fast and other parts of the body can be effected too. George..just DO it..pain pills are not wimpy

George, George, George, George George! I'm so sorry to hear of your mishap (although if it happens to a man would it be a "misterhap"?).

You have been given lots of good advice here, especially about pain killers so I'm just going to second the motion.

Leone, I hope you're doing okay too - it's hard on the caregiver too.

I too agree with Linda's suggestion. I at least take pain pills to aid sleep (I feel like that's my best time for healing). Half during the day will get him through too. I'd rather he posted something than nothing, regardless of the content. Both you and he add to our party Leone! Miss him. Thank you for keeping us aprised.

Hang in there, George, and don't give up your Man Card just yet.
