Slice seeding

I'm currently in the midst of 2 projects. I have 2 areas of 3,000 sq ft, one is established lawn that I'm doing maintenance to...aerating, top dressing, and over seeding. The other area is just soil that I've aerated, and added 1-2" of compost on top so far.

My question is this. I'm running out of time...1 wk of vacation left and it's supposed to rain for the next 3 days here in NH. I would like to start seeding, and I would like to know if I use a slice seeder, will it mix the compost I have with the soil below it sufficiently? I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to seed directly into compost, and I don't have time to till/mix it up with my existing soil. I've never used a slit seeder and I'm not sure what to expect.

As for the established side, I assume that slice seeding now shouldn't be an issue.

Any tips are greatly appreciated

Most slit seeders will not adjust beyond a 1" depth. Till it when it dries out and use a slit seeder to plant grass during a dry period in April thru May if it gets too late this fall to plant after you've tilled.

I'm not sure this is the right answer, but I think the reason for the 45 degree recommendation is that you can get a checkerboard effect if you go one way then 90 degrees. I think the pattern created with the 45 degree approach is less obvious at a glance.

I would control the surge as its mat like growth will out compete the new seedlings. Slicing will remove some of the it but not all. Why not eliminated while you have the opp.

I think it mostly KBG at least that is what someone said based on some photos. I applied dimension 19-0-6 at the beginning of April and a ton of dolomite lime as my ph was low based on a soil test last fall. Everything else looked ok on the test. will put some some more dimension 19-0-6 at the end of May early June. What do you recommend for overseeding based on my situation? also here are some close ups of the grass
