Can't really remember every buying strange or ugly clothing, but I am sure I did and am just forgetting..........

LOL, the immediate thing that comes to mind were the red, crushed-velvet bell-bottom pants that I found in DH's closet when we first moved in together in 1975. What was he thinking??? However, I've been going through some old slides I inherited from my folks and getting them in order to put on a DVD, and I've discovered my own fair share of mistakes also. Most of these, I'll have to say occurred in the 1970's. That was a most unfortunate decade for fashion for both men & women.

Wy do men wear ties anymore? Even so, they only work well I think if the guy is wearing a vest and you don't see too many of those...although if someone is going to wear a suit I feel they need to go the whole way and wear a vest.

I sort of miss hats on men to complete the 3 piece suit. Like hats and gloves for women to complete the ensemble. Still seen around here in the South going into church, at weddings and funerals, but most often the older crowd. They look so polished and yet at ease.

I've noticed some of the younger crowd in full panoply at the local Steeplechase for instance who look a little self conscious or like kids dressed for a party on their best behavior. It is easier to dress "down" and appear comfortable than "up".

As to strange or ugly clothing...Marda, your dress sounds strange being made of paper but not ugly. I've usually tried to avoid the extremes of fashion...but even so old photos tell a strange tale...LOL Through the years: Remember the huge glasses frames and the wrinkly linen and the bouffant hair and high cork shoe soles and the very worst...the over-padded shoulders and the blazer/menswear look with the stringtie to look "professional"? josh

Andie, thanks for that link. Interesting that powers that be were trying to legislate fashions thru the ages. I find it a little sad that so many folks throughout the world gave up their native dress after WWII and adopted the European/American style of dress...both men and women. I miss the sarongs and kimonos, etc. Exotic places aren't so exotic when everyone is wearing t-shirts and flipflops or dressed in western style business clothes. josh
