What kind of orchid is this? A NOID?

Got these orchids as gifts. Thought they may be Phalaenopsis but really am not sure. Need to get them into new pots that won't leak everywhere.

It's a phalaenopsis hybrid. That's about as specific of an identification as possible because there are so many hybrids available that without a tag, giving an exact id is next to impossible.

It will grow and possibly bloom in lower light conditions, but it's best to keep it in brighter conditions (east window for instance).

Soak the potting mix with water once or twice a week, but be sure that the mix approaches dryness between waterings.

They prefer to be kept on the warmer side, so try not to let the night temps drop below 60 F.

The roots look like they will need a bit of time to recover. They don't seem to have any active growth tips, and the leaves are a bit dehydrated, so your plant might need a little TLC before it will perk up again.

Ditto everything digitalphrag says. Be sure to soak the phal well and then don't water again until the mix approaches dryness.

The pot the plant is in is perfectly fine. The water is supposed to come out easily. Put a saucer under it but make sure that the plant won't sit in any water, or a saucer with stones to hold the plant up away from the water. The roots need air, and the slits in the pot provide that. They keep the roots from rotting.

Hi Looks like a Vanda to me also. My runaway favorite type of orchid mostly because of the intense blues and purples but they come in a multitude of other colors and forms. main drawback to them is the growth habit tend to grow straight up with litttle branching. They do require a lot of light ,warmth and water. If you can provide the conditions they are a fantastic choice!! It's most likely a cymbidium if it has a bulb at the base of the leaves are nice and dark so it looks like it is indoors? They require high light, leaves a medium to light green in color, not dark green, and cool temps in winter to set spikes. Cymbidium Culture

Living in Zone 10 as we do, it is quite easy to get it to rebloom next year. Leave it out in a covered lanai or porch if you have one. When the night temperatures dip down in the winter, it will cause the plant to set at least one new flower spike. It will likely start that sometime after the first of the year. I have many, and they always rebloom for me if I just leave them outside. Of course, if a temp below 35 or so is on the way, I protect them a bit. Also fertilize it with orchid food from a big box store, but very weakly diluted, and once a week.

Hi
Check out the post "Phal gods happy" She seems to have come up with the ideal culture ,method in zone 10. Uses tree fern mounted to trees. Might argue with the method but not the pix!!! gary
