Maybe it is one of the local species. Not an oncidium, it looks vaguely like a Coelogyne except that in my experience the flowers come from the base of the pseudobulbs rather than the apex in this case. Lots of flower pics on the net, not so many pics of plants out of bloom, you might have to wait till it blooms to get a positive ID.

It's a phalaenopsis hybrid. That's about as specific of an identification as possible because there are so many hybrids available that without a tag, giving an exact id is next to impossible. It will grow and possibly bloom in lower light conditions, but it's best to keep it in brighter conditions (east window for instance). Soak the potting mix with water once or twice a week, but be sure that the mix approaches dryness between waterings. They prefer to be kept on the warmer side, so try not to let the night temps drop below 60 F. The roots look like they will need a bit of time to recover. They don't seem to have any active growth tips, and the leaves are a bit dehydrated, so your plant might need a little TLC before it will perk up again.

Welcome. The thing that comes to mind is a Phaleanopsis. They are generally available at Big Box stores (Home Depot, Trader Joe, that kind of place). Don't buy one the first time you look if at all possible. Ask what day they deliver the plants, usually the same day each week. Go right after that. The plants are usually neglected and you never know know how long they have been in bloom. Place it where it will as much of your indirect light as possible. If you have more questions, please ask.
