Name That Plant!

What is it?

This plant seemed to appear overnight about a year ago and we decided to let it go and see what we were getting. (we have a lot of birds and they seem to bring little gifts to the garden sometimes). It stayed green all winter, so assuming it is evergreen. has little clusters we thought were buds, but it has never had any blooms.

Location: Seattle, WA, US Partial Sun.

Garden-a volunteer

Woody, evergreen, what look like fruits or seeds. Waxy, thick leaves in clusters About 2 feet tall.

No flowers (yet) but the above mentioned fruit or seeds could be blossoms?

Boy, I had to look that one up. Never heard of it. But I don't think it is what I have, since Clusia seems to be a tropical plant in Florida, Mexico, etc. and what I have survived one of the worst ice storms we have had in the Seattle area last winter.

This is a lovely room! In a small space continuity is important. Before you add or paint anything else, paint the daybed and both chairs a dark brown, British Colonial as mentioned above. This way you can add the color you want here and there. The table in front of the daybed needs to be higher, like a tea table height. Use the chest on the side. To make the daybed more comfy, add old fashioned wedge pillows across the back and then the big pillows on top. What type of edge? What color? What color grout?

Thank you I am leaning towards white grout. We want a very tight grout line. But I think I prefer a gap between counter and door frame.. I am not sure i would like the tile extending past the countertop

What about when the hydrangeas go and the Montauk Daisies take over Kidding!! I like the idea of carrying the sign color to the door - that could be very pretty. Your new June sure is loving it's new home! Heart and Soul looks good, too. I wonder if your teaspoons will have more elongated leaves being in more sun than the rounder ones I think happen in more shade? I'm not surprised to see the whites burning on High Society. It will be interesting to see what acclimates to more sun next year. I have one in sun that burns every year, and it just dawned on me to move it, lol. Ironically, it's Sun Power. It looks great in spring, which I suppose is why I've left it there, but it can't take the harsh sun we have by summer.

Daphne laureola or spurge laurel. And you are right - was planted by the birds! Tends to be fairly common in many areas around Puget Sound, to the point where it is now considered a noxious weed.

Another example of how a plant can go rogue out of its natural habitat. It is a rather scarce native here and an indicator species of ancient woodland.

Thank you for your help! Isn't it the way-you find something that looks good, only to find out it is a pest! I will be taking it out ASAP.
