Tumeric--easily grown organically--and its health benefits

For those who live in climates warm enough to grow TUMERIC, the health benefits of this herb (its rhizomes, or rootstock, is ground, to give Curry Powder its yellow color) makes it a VERY beneficial herb to grow organically. Even others, who cannot grow it in their climate, may appreciate a bulletin from today's news (and reported in the August 15 issue of the journal "CANCER") regarding TUMERIC: "The essential curry spice that gives Indian curries their characteristic yellow color may also be a potent cancer fighter. A new study shows that CUCURMIN, the yellow pigment found in the spice TUMERIC, kills and stops the growth of MELANOMA SKIN CANCER cells in laboratory tests. It's not the first time that CUCURMIN has been noted to be a potential disease fighter. The spice has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that may be useful in combating a variety of diseases." Tumeric is an herb similar to Ginger--do a search to see if it can be (organically) grown in your climate.
