A collage of what it's like to pull into port: It was winter when we pulled in so we had to don our Dress Blues (which are black). See all the people on the pier? Chelone knows how long it takes to tie up a ship....that's a long wait to see your loved ones.....

You look beautiful. I have to ask, did you think you really screwed up about half way throught boot camp?

Thanks for sharing Saucy. The wait to see your loved ones sounds excruciating. I love your stories about the navy, especially sitting on deck at night.
We have a simalar picture of our DD in army uniform.

Beth--- this is just my 2 cents but I would not do that color on the front door. I live in a neighborhood of over 2000 homes in sunny Florida. We can pretty much paint our homes any color we want. I see all the homes who have done the pop of color for the front door and 9 out of 10 times it doesn't work. All you notice is the door. I find it takes away from the home instead of adding value to it. When we were trying to decide on our color my fiancee actually made renditions of the home. He would add different colors to the door so we could see how it would look. Maybe take a picture of your house and upload it to SW and use their paint tool and see how it would look.

The house I bought has expresso cabinets now and the floor throughout the house is a light to medium tan color almost a like a light khaki color I guess. See attached photo the floor is more tan than cream. The kitchen is open to dining area and living room and the exposure in those areas are southern with big windows. Do you think an off white /white cabinet would look ok with a floor that color? I am not the best judge of color to know. I have tried obtaining a color specialist or decorator through HOUZZ and locally online but either no reply or they are not taking new clients at this time, maybe due to Covid? I of course would bring navy, blues, white throughout the dining and living room areas. Just wasn’t sure if navy cabinets with a white or off white counter would look brighter or a white/off white counter with navy cabinets? Just trying to get other opinions. My friends opinions are exactly 50/50 in their opinions, need a tie breaking honest opinion. Your thoughts and comments are appreciated, to help me through my decision. Hopefully you can tell floor color. This was in full sun the floor picture. I am trying to break my match matchy color ideas, I am only hesitate to because my floor color is not white or gray. Unsure if tan floor color will ruin the whole look! I will add a larger view of the floor after I post this. Can’t ad a picture for some reason

Thanks Jilly! What a beautiful fresh faced young girl! :-) I agree with Woody you really are a cutey. I also agree with Jerri...I know I'd never make it. You must be made of some tough stuff behind that sweet face. :-)

A very serious Saucy. Handsome as all getout! I hope you'll add more some day....I bet your kids will love these pictures over the years.

I remember photos of my Dad in the French army with cavalry! I was amazed.

Wow, kid, the Navy should you as a recruiting poster... a most flattering portrait. Count me as another who loves your tales of the Navy. LOL about "High Tide", someone has a sense of humor. And as one who knows how to "put up and shut up", and get the job done I'm not in the least surprised you survived bootcamp. You know how to reach way down and pull out the effort, too. A sense of humor helps as does the knowledge that it won't last forever.

Since you're good at this sort of thing, do you think you could put your Navy photograph next to the wedding shot of your grandmother?

Hi Saucy....We have been watching the series on the Carrier here at our house. My DH has always found air craft carriers fascinating. When the kids were small we brought them into Boston to see one of the big ones that they allowed them to board..not sure if it was the JFK? I will have to ask my DH, his memory is better than mine. [g]

Mr Roberts is one of my all time favorite movies and being a gardener, I have to laugh at the persistence of the Captain's efforts to keep something green growing on board..lol. I can't imagine being at sea for 6 months, with no green plants and no sound of birds.

How long has it been since you served? Would love to know, would you do it over again?
