Finally some action and a vent

Saw the surgeon today that operated on my hand 60 days ago. He has been telling me to be patient all of this time. Well, I ran out of patience and apparently he decided that there was really somthing wrong. I'm scheduled for a nerve block and another nerve conduction test but this time he got me an appointment in Omaha with a hand specialist. He keeps acting like he is afraid I want to sue him or something. I have absolutely no intention of doing anything of the kind. All I want is to be able to use my left hand again and have some sensory feedback when I touch something. The thumb and three fingers are almost totally numb but there is a lot of constant pain. Seems contradictory, pain and numbness but believe me it happens Also lined up for another 12 sessions of physical therapy on the hand, doubt that that will do any good, the last 12 sessions sure didn't.

Maybe I'm being a wuss or worse but I really don't care whether or not he is worried about a suit, it won't happen. Just try buttoning a shirt with one hand, tying your shoes and other things you take for granted. I can type if I watch my hand but there is no way I can sense where the hand is on the keyboard. I can carry things in the hand but have no idea how much pressure I'm putting on the object.

Well, now that I've vented off some anger and steam I'll shut up and go put the snowshovels away rather dumb, sure way to bring on a snow storm.

60 days ago and you are still having pain!?!? You have the patience of Job dear man.
30 days after a quad bypass i was pain free. No reason on earth you should have to put up with this mess. I hope the new drs can give you immediate relief.
Oh and BTW...dont put away the snow gear yet.

I love your sweet little butterfly garden! It made me smile. Thank you for planting it. The female Tiger Swallowtail at the bottom is just stunning. What a great shot! The Tigers are especially tolerant of human presence I find, and you can get really close to them with the camera. They don't seem to mind. As for the hand raising of butterflies, a person has to decide for themselves what they want to do. If you want to hand raise them, then learn all that you can about the best ways to do that, and then do it to the best of your ability. It's also fine if you don't want to make the commitment of hand raising. Simply providing the plantings that they need in order to thrive is a big contribution. Most here will probably tell you to concentrate on having as many host plantings as you can possibly offer. The host plants are the ones that they lay their eggs on, and each species uses different plants. I will include a link for a good listing of species specific host plants here. First, you need to know which butterflies occur in your area, and you can look at area specific lists at the BAMONA site which I will also link here. I have a favorite basic butterfly ID book that I always recommend, and I will link it here too so that you might take a look at that. The nice folks here will help as much as you ask. So ask away! Thanks Bouquet. I have had no luck with any salvia overwintering. I think our winters are too wet with a constant freeze-thaw cycle that is deadly to many perennials. The local nurseries have been adding new salvia types over the last few years. I was able to find 3 different types including greggii (sp?) this spring.

sunny, Look at it this way. The comments on here can sometimes seem rude but they will make you question choices you probably wouldn't question otherwise. Friends and family are not always the best people to go to in these situations because they will not want to offend you and will therefore tell you what they think you want to hear. It's better to decide now if this is really the house you want vs. spending $400,000 and then deciding it isn't what you wanted. If you love this house and it is your dream then who cares what anyone else thinks, but if you are feeling a little uncertain then maybe you should take a timeout before making the largest investment of your life. Whatever you do be honest with yourself. Don't feel like you HAVE to build something that you will not like if you have already invested several hundred or even several thousand dollars. It's better to cut your losses on $2,000 then to regret something worth $400,000.

I think you need shutters on the single window that is on the wall with siding. I also think that a triangular vent in that gable would help break up the wall. Currently all of the other areas have interesting visual elements that draw the eye...stone, jack arches, pretty front stairs, front door, more brick at the foundation (right side)...this area feels almost incomplete. I think a simple triangular vent would look better than a round one. The house looks great...any interior pics?!

I'd call you a lot of things, but "wuss" is not among them. Glad there's a plan to remedy the situation and I hope your results are optimal.

As for snow shovels, don't you dare put 'em away! You know better than that!

Speaking of which, did I mention my sister in CT with the two kids finally sold all her baby stuff this summer? Guess what they told me (on my birthday) they're giving me for Christmas! :o) Leave those #*&$ shovels on your front porch!

First time I've ever seen a vent from you...and you're certainly entitled. Sorry you're having such a trial.

Years ago I sprained my thumb badly while carrying big potted plants with one hand...it's miserable just doing without the use of a thumb. You can't pick up anything! Doctor finally told me if it didn't heal I'd need an operation. Explained there are so-o-o many bones, muscles, in human hand (but feet have more I think). Fortunately it did finally heal without surgery...but I can certainly sympathize with your problem.

Sure hope you get relief soon...josh

I too think you have the patience of Job and glad you vented and hope you soon get some releif.

Please don't put away the snow shovels. You might cause a frost down here.LOL

I think you've already shown more than enough patience. Something isn't right, and I hope the Omaha docs can fix it.
Somehow, having more PT doesn't sound right... if a nerve is being pinched [causing the numbness], I'd think PT might aggravate the situation.

Please, leave the snowshovels on the porch... just the thought of putting them away has dropped our local temps from the 80's to the 60's. Enough already. I want to plant the beans this weekend.

Gandle, leave the snow shovels out.
Sure as shootin you put those things away,
you'll have a blizzard.

Dr's today are so afraid of mega lawsuits that they
try to cover their behinds first and formost. It's
a shame but it's true.
I think your's simply missed the boat with your hand
and hope that you will soon find a doctor that will
know exactly what to do to help and will step up to the plate and do it.
I hope you will soon be pain free and your hand is healed
so much that when sweet Leone slips her hand in yours
you'll be able to feel her qentle touch.

Sometimes a good rant is good for what ails you.

I know that feeling. I was sharpening a large chef's knife with a steel and dropped it. Stupidly I grabbed for it and cut my ring finger to the bone. The Dr's at the VA performed micro surgery to tie the nerves back together but the feeling you describe us still there. No needle sticks for blood tests on that finger as it is very painful in a weird sort of way.

Hope the specialist can sort it out and relieve the problem. Sounds like some sort of nerve blockage or pinching. Just leave the shovels out and tell people it is an old native remedy to ward off storms.

What a can of worms. You are such an active person and having to be curtailed this long has to be incredibly frustrating. Like everyone else George,I'm hoping the specialist can pinpoint the problem and get you back in business again.

I'm hoping it's as easy as a snip of an over-taut tendon, or something like that so that it can be over with soon! Best thoughts coming your way, and feel free to vent, it's quite reasonable.
