An Explanation of sorts.

I must seem a fool to Semper and C3D in particular. I know, I know. That leaves me open to all sorts of negative comments but I think I need to explain. I suddenly had shortcuts appearing on my screen and it appeared to be coming from Semper and C3D. For which I thanked them and started looking for a way to prevent it happening again. Today, two more icons appeared that certainly did not come from them as they appeared to be homework assignments. A couple of calls to the High School located a block from us and it turns out one of the students was trying out a wireless mouse similar to the one I use but a good bit more powerful. The random noise that was appearing on my screen and in my computers memory was coming from a science experiment. I'm glad to say the noise has been turned down so it does not do those things anymore and I can stop laying the blame on the innocent. My apologies all round. Sandy

PS The kid got an A on the experiment but he won't continue using it because it is too bulky. Thank goodness.

PHEWWWW! For a second there I thought she was onto {{gwi:163300}}. :-)

I was under the assumption that all a 'puter mouse (either corded or not) did was report X and Y coordinates. So I'm still curious/interested to know how in the world it could have been sending files/data to someone else's 'puter a city block away! It must have been one helluva powerful transmitter. Very much an OVERKILL I'd say for its designed purpose. But I see you wrote "he won't continue using it...". The kid should be inducted in the exclusive XY overkill fraternity.

Hey Cindeea, The farmer's market tomato was nice and tangy, but small, and it completely fell apart when cut (that's how all the seeds ended up on the cutting board, and then in little envelopes that I sent all over the place!) The mystery red is larger than the green zebra parent fruit, and much firmer. It cut up nice. And it's tangy. Beyond a more tangy than sweet tomato, I couldn't really identify the taste as green zebraish. The mystery red had a nice flavor, so I'm happy to have it producing in my yard - there's more on the vine. And heck, I'll save seeds from it again and see what I get. But it didn't fulfill the "I want a striped green tomato" need. A need I didn't know I had until I bought those green zebras. Aaah well. This is what open pollinated is. Do let me know what yours does. This was the first plant to bloom in my yard, and it set fruit right away, so just that aspect of it pleased me. (of course, that might be because it's growing next to the golden dewdrop, which has been covered with bees since about the time the tomatoes started blooming... maybe that's the trick I should try to replicate.) We'll see how everything survives. Or if anything survives the recent murphy's oil soap massacre. I've got new growth on several badly damaged plants, and I'm gradually cutting down plants (back to the most recent fruit) to get my gangly and murphy's oil soap decimated jungle back under control. It's all an experiment. The one that I thought was the unnamed yellow appears to be producing cherries.... so none of this open-pollinated stuff is working out as expected. Maybe that's just a spray of big yellows? We'll see. I'm far from complaining about taste or texture at this point in my little trial runs at farming. That said, the free dombito seeds seem to be my happiest of all! I recently looked back at the packet and it said it should be planted out in a nine-inch pot, which is what I accidentally put it in. Fancy that! Seems kind of small for a big tomato, but it's got a gorgeous tomato on it that just keeps getting bigger. In such a tiny pot! Plus it's got several littler tomatoes on it. Of course, it escaped the murphy's oil soap massacre because it didn't have whitefly. It was far enough away from the tomato jungle that I can't say it's resistant. But it makes me happy. I have no idea what tests were or were not performed while I was hospitalized, nor how to find out, so I couldn't possibly argue about it with a doctor or insurance company. My file was several inches thick for 20 days in hospital in 2005. Often, bills were submitted by a practice, but paid to a particular doctor such as Pathologists and oncologists, infection specialists, hospitalists, etc. - mostly MDs, none of whom I ever met and whose names I never knew until they were paid. The same thing happened when my husband was hospitalized three different times in 2005 and 2006, and when my 35 yo son had a heart attack in a different state in November. I cannot imagine how one could find flaws in billing or match EOBs to paid claims. Or, frankly, why. I was just happy to be alive, and spent months recovering. I had no strength for such tedious work, and no interest in it. If we are ever audited or questioned about our medical bills, we will have to rely on their computer-generated bills.

rhizo_1, it is important to me because it's history that lies as the intersection of the social and the natural, and that's a subject I find fascinating. Call it social-natural history, or call it an anthropology of nature. Your example is perfect: if the name 'Standing Cypress' was in fact given to this plant by a seed company, that should be part of our social history of that plant. I'd love to know that. If such knowledge tells us as much about human beings and human history as about the plant itself, that's great; that would make it something I want to know. I would imagine you're right: finding a single 'origin source' for the name 'Love Lies Bleeding' would be incredibly challenging but that's only to say that it would be an act of anthropology. Historians do detailed research on long-forgotten subjects that we previously had no knowledge of and then reveal to us startling new stories. Is it possible that the origin point of name "Love Lies Bleeding" is "folk etymology" and would therefore be impossible to uncover? You bet it is, but any book/encyclopedia about plant "common name" etymology that would give it a try would be something I'd love to have on my book shelf. Thanks for turning me on to botanical.com and its history of Shepherd's Purse -- that's just the kind of thing I'd like to see more of.

For some it is the idea to know where their family originated or to see if they have Devonian or other ancient man history. Some it is curiosity to see if what they have been told about their family history is true. I am part of the latter group except I want to see how much of it is false. Part of my father's family showed up in Kentucky supposedly coming from Virginia. There are no records that I or others have found of that family with any of the spellings of the name found in Virginia. Looking at some of the old pictures I have wondered if the family was light enough to have passed. One of these days I will actually take a test or two to compare. Edited to add that some diseases that you inherit may not effect you but will effect future generations. I look at YT DNA things several times and was surprised how many had a certain type of jewish ancestry show up in their DNA. People with that ancestry can have Tay Sachs as recessive. Important to know to prevent the anguish of seeing your children start dying shortly after birth.

Well this one does a bit more than X and Y. And right now I am fretting because I will be locking the thing up every second minute until I figure out what is at fault. Half the functions I use automaticly DON'T WORK!!!Just going back one page I have locked it up at least 10 or 15 times since I logged on. And just why am I suddenly being asked to log on? That sounds like an iV problem. Please excuse me while I limp over to suggestions and comments to log a query and complaint... Well, maybe I better check a little further before laying blame. That's where I started with this thread isn't it? Sandy

Well, I got on without being asked to log on and my mouse functions are working again so I guess that lets the kid and iVillage off the hook. So that leaves me with Mozilla/Firefox. I really am not in the mood to figure that out tonight. Why does iVillage ask for logons in Mozilla/Firefox and not IE??? I think it will be easier to figure out why the TV turns on at 4:30 or 5:00 am. Not cable, just the TV. It blares static for a couple of minutes then turns itself off again. Very strange when you are sleepless. I tend to suspect the lady cop behind us and down one. I wonder if her garage door opener is over juiced. Of course I didn't ask where the kid lives. He might have been playing with the opener or the remote control Hi Fi. Those would have a timer on them. What else comes to mind?? When I was running a computer/ electronics store the local kids came up with some wild ideas and of course had to show them off to me. One of those ideas was good enough for an invite to one of the big schools for one of the kids. He decided on a tech school. The other half of that partnership, after rewriting the software for one of the local hospitals for peanuts, decided to go for a degree in English. Then they rewired my store so I could control various systems from my desk in the backroom with one touch of a button. Sandy

Sandy I'm using mozilla firefox and I don't need to login each time. Its gotta be something else.

Probably has to do with cookies. And your firefox is not saving them. Your logon info is stored in a cookie (not the chocolate chip kind). Personally I won't use firefox ot any other browser but IE. There are too many issues with other browsers and I've never had an issue with IE.

Not sure about the TV, Sandy (spooky!), but maybe you have some sort of spyware on your computer? Have you tried running Spybot lately? Or run Disk Cleanup and/or Defragmenter? Just in case...

I've only heard good things about Mozilla Firefox recently, but I'm in my comfort zone with IE. I hope you find the problem soon, though!

Checked, double checked and triple checked. Anything that gets through was writen by a genius or two with a left twist by a dummy. Or there was a heck of a power surge. Disc Cleanup gave me pains for a week. Spybot found nothing it wasn't supposed to find and I prefer oatmeal raisin, thank you. Sigh, it used to be I could lay my hands on a degausser, give a snarl and there wouldn't be a blip for a week. Now the gremlins are giving me payback since they know I have only software and wetware and both are out of date. Sandy

Hey, Semper. I got carried away and failed to say what my mouse does do. For the most part it does just report or confirm X,Y coordinates. However, it gets a bit excitable by being able to go directly to the various e-mails I am signed into, or will do a search without going into something like Google although it doesn't do it as well. It will open a page on local news or whatever key I set it for or open local white and yellow pages. Of course it has a back function and refresh. I have no doubt my former groupies could have set up more functions but they are long gone into their adult lives and I am long past any serious programing. BTW, those two boys could get Christmas tree lights on top of their school to perform highjinks much like the ones on the house we all enjoyed so much and they did it with mostly recycled stuff. It was amazing what they could do with a junked or outdated 32 or 64K computer. Sandy
