The best is the marvelous unseasonably cool weather we've been having - perfect for tackling those garden jobs.

The worst is the fact that my book group will be at my house next Wednesday & I have to clean it! I don't wanna!!

And Marda, I hate to tell you this, but none of the dogs I've ever had ever out-grew their love of poop.

The best is that it finally, finally warming up enough to get on with the gardening.
The worst is the serious rainfall deficit, rainy season is just about over and rain will not start again until October (if we are lucky).
And about poop: my dogs don't eat carnivore's poop, but they do like horse apples. At least it's only processed vegetable matter.

I'm grinning ear to ear with tears in my eyes. No worsts to share, but let me tell you how my day started out:

I got a happy birthday call from my sister very early this morning. While talking to her about what a bummer it was that Steve is in Prague, I interrupted because I saw the first hummingbird of the season at my feeder and I considered it a gift from the universe on my birthday... "Oh, by the way, I got you something for your birthday too, and I think you're going to really like it!"

I instantly knew what she was talking about, since she was due May 10! Baby Dillon Jacob was born at around 4:00 this morning. Ten perfect fingers, ten perfect toes, 6 lbs, 11 oz. Mama and baby are doing fine, and it was a very easy labor.

Wanna take a moment and grin along with me?

I suppose there will be poopy diapers, but I don't think my sister minds a bit.

The best is still to come-the new deck we're having built outside our bedroom. The worst-the absolute mess everywhere outside our house until the construction is done.

Gee, we've had our hummer feeders up for two weeks' and haven't seen a hummer, yet. I think you're a lot further north than WV. Maybe they went straight to WI?

Currently, the best of times is the lovely, cool Spring weather; the worst will be when it turns hot -- then the best will be our A/C.

The worst--drywall, dust, nails, wood splinters, etc. all over the 1/2 remodeled house.
The best--when kiddo says he's sitting front row at my graduation. Kinda strange being proud of someone who also humbles you!!!

No worst of times for me, except I wish Spring would get here.

Best of times> A great breakfast with good friends and then the young man I met in the parking lot of the hardware store came by and he's great. I will have a 400sq.ft fenced and tilled, sod free, area to put my raised beds in by early next week !

Now to get a good dirt guy.

By the way, who knows roughly how much a bed 12" deep by 6'6" x 3'6" might be when translated into cubic feet of dirt?

If you buy it trucked in, you'll probably have to buy it by the cubic yard. One cubic yard = 27 cubic feet.

The cool thing is that I only just filled my feeders yesterday, in spite of the fact that they've been back for a while. According to the map, you have them... yours are just apparently more sneaky than mine! ;o)

LOL! Marda, you have just given me a great laugh. And that Digby is too cool and cute - who cares about his 'depraved' appetite (that's what veterinarians call D's bad habit). So that's eight cubic yards Marda? Less what Digby's eaten - so say seven cubit yards? LOL.

but today while I was out, my adorable little fur ball

Tomorrow I'm going to feed her some pineapple, it is supposed to discourage that nasty habit.

My sister, Gail, called a few days ago and was watching a
hummingbird build it's nest in her garden.
Today I went over to check it out and there she was
that tiny little soon to be mom, sitting on her little nest
just a few feet above a garden path.

That was an absolute best.

I got a brand new nephew Sat night. We are esp excited because this brother was such a confirmed bachalor that we never thought he would get married let alone reproduce.
Bummer is they live 2 hrs away and with the price of gas we wont get to see him as often as we would like.
