Thank you both for the replies. I'm very attracted to a certain rug that doesn't seem to be too flowery to me. Tell me what you think? I don't have tons of choices to choose from because I'm getting these area rugs for free. The company made a mistake while installing our tiles which runs in most of our downstairs and we'd both rather not pull all of it out and start over. The mistake isn't huge but because they are a service oriented company that thrives on word of mouth, they want to keep their customers happy. They sell carpet and flooring and carry only a limited amount of rugs. They will be giving me 2 of them to put into my "formal" living room and dining room combo. It says on the link, and on the sample itself that this is a light blue rug... let me just say NOT! It's really a greenish rug and not a blue green either, I'd say it's a light green beige background... especially in my greenish taupe house. Also, if it IS lightblue and I couldn't see it in the store or in my house, perhaps it's a good thing too. It may be a rug that will adapt to paint changes a little better? Quit trying to make the "right" choice, and make the happy choice. The fact that you are so agonized over it probably means they will both look good. Which one makes your blood pressure go down when you see it? I know that's silly, but seriously. The one the sight of which makes you relax (regardless of whether your head tells you it's "best" or not) is the one that belongs in your home.

Gilmoregal-thank you for your kind words. The sofa is a Bernhardt that I originally found at Haverty's. Then I found the exact sofa at Bob Mill's (which is a really strange store, they have really low end stuff and REALLY high end stuff) for half the price they wanted at Haverty's. I'm very happy with it so far. I also bought the matching chair and 1/2 which I like, but am not thrilled with the back cushion. It's going to need restuffing already. For some reason, it's totally different than the sofa cushions. I think you can look on Bernhardt's website and find the upholstery. If you need a closer pic, let me know. But it should be pretty easy to pick it out. I can't remember what the name of it is. Hope that helps.

Patricia - I like MCM, but I wouldn’t say I LOVE it. I think I’ve been influenced too much by what I see, and I see a lot of MCM today. I like that it’s trim (we aren’t big people so I feel like the overstuffed styles are just too frumpy to me and not needed). But I’m pretty sure that after seeing it for maybe another 5 years, I’d be so over it. I also don’t think it looks that comfortable - like I should be dressed up Draper-style to sit in it, and I confess to have been in nothing but yoga pants for the last 8 months 🤣. I think what I want for style is attractive, comfortable, and doesn’t get dated - the last is probably impossible, no? I liked the rolled arm style years ago, and still do today. Though I will say I liked sleigh beds a couple of decades ago, but dont anymore. I like the cognac color as well. Current couch is a dark brown and was basically a “quick, we have a new house, buy some things to fill it up” and doesn’t really have any style. But we also had babies. Youngest is now 9 yo, so I think there’s for the next 10 years, and then when I’m empty nest 😁.
