Name That Plant!

I don't remember planting it but doesn't look like a weed . . .

This plant looks so symmetrical and herb-like that I assumed it must be one of the herbs I rescued from the King's parking lot last year. However, it doesn't smell or taste like an herb--rather, it smells and tastes just like your standard green plant. It's concentrated in just one place and doesn't look like any weed I've ever seen, which makes me think I must have planted it. However, I don't remember planting any non-herbs there. Thoughts?

It reminds me of a Snapdragon. They do reseed sometimes.

That makes sense, since there were snapdragons planted there last year! So, how thin do I thin them, or do I just let them go and may the best snapper win? If I do thin them, do they do okay when transplanted?

Post a pic a maybe we can at least narrow it down for you. If I can't name it for you it a good chance cf kingfish can do it. And I dont want to forget all the other palm growers here. There are many that are very knowledgeable on this site.

For three days now, I have been seeing a rather large spider crawling across the top shelf of my computer desk. I haven't tried to catch it to put it outside, because grabbing among all the stuff on the shelf would result in a disaster. It must be difficult to go through life fearful of bugs, spiders, snakes, etc. I don't have that fear, in fact for the most part I find them fascinating, and in the case of spiders, when practical, adopt a live and let live attitude. My mother was the same, as is my sister and my children. But in my husbands family, they all are more fearful. So I am wondering if a persons feelings about such things are inherited or perhaps learned.

'Melissacovell'....do you have any more of that Christmas cactus, now growing? Or does your mother have a big plant if it, that maybe she would take some cuttings off of it? I lost mine a few years ago, over 150 yrs old, gone. Between the post office knocking it over and killing half of it, (when we use to get phonebooks delivered to our homes...they just threw them on the porch, and hit the cactus and it fell and snapped it in half,) and only the other half rooted. The half that lived, but never really got over the shock i guess. It slowly died year after year, it slowly died, stem at a time. Till it was gone. I got through Hurricane Irma, but it killed my garden/yard, and my cactus collection, my huernia/orbea collection. My hoya collection, everything was destroyed. All my plants. I now have a bare yard, with tree stumps and a huge mountain of dead tree limbs/plants. I would LOVE to get some of that 'old fashion' Christmas Cactus....if you happen to see this, leave me a note. I miss that plant so much. Its lovely pink/lavender bloom at Christmas time. Your 'message option' is not working in your profile, so I couldnt make this plea for cuttings in private. Thank you.

They transplant well enough but you'll delay flowering if you do it now.

i would transplant on a rainy .. cloudy.. or cool day ... or late in the evening ...

but they are large.. and they will take a beating ... but should snap back ... lol.. see what i did there...

thats a l lot of greenery to sustain.. if you disturb the root mass too much.. so the other alternative is a big wad of soil with it ...

I concur with Snapdragon. Have you looked closely? It appears to me to be one bushy plant regrowing from the base of last year's plant rather than a clump of seedlings. They would hardly be on the point of flowering in zone 5 (which they are) if they had only germinated this spring. The plant's dead foliage and last years seed pods are clearly visible in the photo.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I left the snapdragons in the ground because the seller said that they often "come back," and I thought he meant that the original plants would revive. Yeah. That was stupid. Heading out to look at things again. Thanks!

Mwa ha! Thanks! Now I feel much less stupid! At what point is it safe to cut back the old brown ones? Early spring? Late fall?

They're dead, so anytime. Just don't damage the green shoots.
