Funny you should bring up SHOES today. I was downtown yesterday and spotted a cute pair of fire engine red flats with a little black and white flower attached.

Flats because I can't wear heels anymore....sigh. And yes, it would be pretty traumatic if your shoes collapsed during a cocktail party. You'd probably be accused of having too much to drink.

"What did she say? Her shoes collapsed???"

I like the styles and they certainy look cute with the full heel.

I looked at the technology link where they describe how they work. The heel in the 'short' position looks somewhat awkward and the retracted portion is too visible. It seems like it would be fine for temporary walking, say to and from work, but I wouldn't care for the look as a permanent look/feature.

Additionally the toe looks like it becomes somewhat unappealingly canted upward while the heel is lowered.

If I was in the market for them I would wait a little while and see what kind of reviews they are given.

Classic Chanel pumps. Very nice, except for the price. Unfortunately, my shoes of choice these days are Crocs. That's how far down the fashion scale I've sunk.

It would take something like SHOES to drag me back to civilization. I haven't been able to wear a pair of heels (even low ones) since about 1992. I finally gave up a couple of weeks ago and took all my pumps to the Thrift Shop.

It hurt. I wanted to cry. So y'all enjoy those cute shoes while you can!!

Shoes, glorious shoes (sung to the tune of "Food, glorious food). I like them both ways though I know I would fall on my face if I wore them high. I'll be interested in seeing how and if they work.

High is for sitting at a table and being served Champagne and caviar....when you want to visit the "powder room" you just zip-zap ( wonder if it's that easy) and lower those heels and stride away!
Probably very convenient for walking from the parking lot and then going high for the party...
But just a bit pricy....for that I can carry a shoe bag!!

I agree with Andie, crocs are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. Also the ugliest. But I've reached the age where I don't let that bother me.

I love Crocs!!! In fact as I type this I'm wearing them, yes they are ugly but the most comfortable shoes I own! While we were in Vegas last week I found Croc charms,they're these little rubber charms that go in the holes. I found a pansy, smily face. It makes them look alot cuter! Maybe not, but I love my Crocs!!

Another Crocs wearer here. My daughter bought me my first pair last spring and I live in them. They're the perfect shodding for my poor old dogs and I can water in the g'houses without the wet sole leather I was used to in workboots, and can hose them off and leave them at the back door when I get chicken manure on them. The comfort? I can barely stand to put on a pair of real shoes anymore. Love them.

Why does one stop being able to wear heels? I thought it happens if you've spent many years wearing really ridiculously high heels and doing too much walking in them. I only wore really high heels occasionally on a date (dinner, movies, ie sitting down). Just the walk from the carpark was tough enough and I wasn't surprised when I had to give that up, but in recent years my shoes have gotten flatter and flatter.

In my case, I had to stop wearing heels after the second time my knee dislocated. The bone ends and cartilage had been damaged in an accident, and the doctors were very explicit in explaining how and why wearing even low 2" heels put undue [and avoidable] stress on the leg muscles and tendons as well as causing the whole body to change posture so that every step throws your body's weight *onto* the knee instead of distributed through the foot. I already knew that wearing heels caused your achilles' tendon to shorten which in turn often caused problems while walking. Not being an admirer of the appearance of little old ladies leaning on a cane, much less having any desire to be a cane-using younger lady, I gave away a closet-full of high-heeled shoes and bought a closet-full of flats. No regrets, especially when I see the women in high heels limping from sore feet or damaged knees. I can admire high heels but it's with exactly the same feeling that I admire a chemically-induced vivid green lawn -- pretty enough to look at, but I sure don't want to live with it.

Pidge, I thought the same thing about Crocs until I put a pair on my feet. You know the is a reason that nurses are all wearing them now. For a while I just wore them around the house & garden & put on something more presentable when I went into town, but now I wear them just about anywhere. They are in the category of something that's so ugly it's cute.

Now about crocs, my friends are wearing them and swear they
are so comfortable that if I ever try a pair, i'll
never wear anything else. Right now, my leg hurts so

I remember my little SOUTHERN MIL was horrified when
I showed up at her house wearing pants. I bought her some
and encouraged her to wear them around the house.
"Never" she said. "What in the world would people think?"
Needless to say, she finally consented to try them and
you would have thought she had invented pants for women.
Never say never,ladies, it'll come back and bite you on your you know what.

Well im a sensible shoe girl...DD (26 yr's old) will be scheduling bunion surgery soon and after her short years of wearing each crazy fad will im sure settle into what is comfortable. She needs screws in each foot, only factor is a maternal great grandmother, not sure if it skips that many generations or it was the crazy shoes.

Meldy, I didn't even think of knees. My feet hurt when I wear heels. But now that I've got a bad knee too I suppose that's just one more reason to avoid them.

Janis, my mother always thought you couldn't leave the house without a dress, lipstick, pantyhose, and good shoes (not necessarily really high heels but not flatties either). Yep, things have changed. Especially her definition of good shoes, which is now anything she can walk in.

Knee replacement & bunions run in my family, & my feet were always hurting, my legs always ached, &, for the last 10 years, my knees have been so bad that I was threatened with knee replacement.

I got some Croc knock-offs from Walmart (they have them at Dollar General now), to see how they felt, &...I am now in love with rubber shoes!

Since they make my feet hot, I only wear Crocs or Croc types in winter, & I wear socks with them.

I wear Okabashi Cleos almost all the time; they're a sandal with a 1.5" wedge heel, & I've found similar flats at the cheap places.

Since they're molded in 1 piece, the straps never break loose, & they last for years.

& as someone said, the "care" for them is...you hose 'em off.

...my feet don't hurt, my legs don't ache, & my knees are mobile again & mostly painfree.

I'm so predictable: I like the shoes in your link, Marda, but can't imagine why I'd ever wear them short! I actually enjoy wearing high heels, and suffer no pain for the indulgence.

I know everyone raves about crocs, but they look like they'd make my feet sweat. Though I confess the ballet flats are rather tempting! I think the thing that's stopping me is remembering the last plastic shoes I wore that "everyone had to have": jelly shoes! Remember those awful french fry baskets we wore? Blech!

I really like my Teva's for gardening and dog walking. They're comfy and supportive, fully adjust (no matter how much water I happen to be retaining that day), clean up easily, and don't make my feet all hot and sweaty.

Now if only they made them with a heel! ;o)

jaz, they make my feet sweat, so I only wear them in winter, usually with socks.

I must confess I like bare feet best...I keep my toenails polished even in winter 'cause if I'm inside I'm usually barefoot. But otherwise I do love high heels still. Never liked mid-heels, in fact insisted on high heels as my first "heels" as a teen ...practiced walking around the house with a book on my head...LOL

I like canvas or leather flats/sandals...but most important a flexible sole...love what are often called "driving mocs"of soft leather or suede for winter. For tennies I buy the cheapest at KMart... think they're Keds, but they're lightweight and sole folds double...I've always disliked the clunky athletic shoes (but then I don't jog or even walk fast...LOL). Love strappy little sandals flat or high heel.

But bare feet are best...josh

Sylvia, the reason your feet are sweating is because you got the cheap knock-offs. Won't happen if you fork over the $$$ for the real azrticle.

my feet get hot in any closed-toe shoes.)

I only wear them when it's too cold to wear my rubber sandals (no socks), so wearing socks with them is no biggie.

but if I get more I'll try the actual Crocs.

I tried on a pair of croscs and they just didn't hit my arch as comfy as tennies. Of course I have to spend hours to find a pair of those that fits right, then I buy two pairs.
