It looks like Romneya coulteri, Matilija Poppy.

Thanks for the info, I'm not sure if it is that plant, this grows more like a shrub and those looked upright but I will need to look further. The flowers looked close. Here is another one that is very closely related (also from Italy) but doesnt grow as tall as the first I showed. The first is ~6ft or so while this one is ~3ft.

They are bout 15 years old at this point, I was told they were Italian poinsettas years ago, and remember when they arrived in a container from Italy but was trying to find out what they actually were.. I will look up the plants you mentioned. The one flower did look like some Peonies so thats another avenue for me to research.

Your plant is a fairly modest white tree peony. The Cretan white peony mentioned above is an herbaceous peony with a different flower and more finely divided leaves. There are multiple photos of it and comments about it on the internet.

Looks very similar to Paeonia "Garden Peace" Peony. We really need to see a good image of the foliage and a good description of size of the bush.

Thanks for the all the help, I will see if I can some images with measurements. The bush is 6-7 ft tall, the leaves are long but I will get a measurement when I get additional images.

'Garden Peace' is also an herbaceous peony, plant asked about is clearly a tree peony, with characteristic flower structure and typical leaves definitely discernible in original post.

There are lots of different garden varieties of peonies, another being semi-double and white does not make it similar enough to one asked about for it to be the same variety. P. lactiflora types (and any other peonies lacking woody stems) are completely up the wrong tree, so to speak.

Looking again I see this has leaflets longer and more slender than usual for P. suffruticosa types, although otherwise having tree peony characters. There are also cultivars grown resulting from crosses between tree and herbaceous peonies, resulting in intermediate plants. Maybe this is one of those.

Now thinking that Paeonia ostii is the identity of plant in question.

The pink one is definitely a P. suffruticosa type.
