thought I would take you on a walk through my garden from last year...just ran across a few photos today.

this is my grape arbor in my front yard last summer, a cool place to sit in the august heat....

This is about all that was left after our housefire in 2002, I'm standing where the old house was while taking this picture (planted all those trees from babies)

and a tiny bit of the garden out my back door...hope you enjoyed the little taste of what lies ahead in my garden this summer..will share more as we actually get summer here..soon I hope

Thanks for those fantastic pictures! There's nothing more delicious than freshly picked citrus (especially those oranges). You're right though, it is sad to see that orchard going to waste and many of the SoCal suburbian neighborhoods were built on old citrus groves with some of the magnificent trees still standing in peoples' backyards. In some neighborhoods, you can stand by one of the citrus trees and then notice that several trees in adjacent yards are all in a line. Don't worry too much about the lemon tree as I've seen them grow pretty rapidly. I also always liked the nice privacy screen and windbreak provided by those Italian cypress. I hope you did get a chance to cover them tonight! Its pretty cold for SoCal!

Thanks Konrad. We did quite a bit of hardscaping, and will be doing a little bit more with the patio cover, arbors and the fountain. But, it will be very pretty when it's done, and we'll have a peaceful place to take a nap and for company to spread out. The orchard you see in the background behind our property is a lovely older Valencia orange orchard that sadly has been abandoned. It has been in the family for 2 generations, possibly 3, and the cost of water in S. California has put them out of business. It just breaks my heart. The oranges are the sweetest Valencia oranges I've ever had, and they make the most delicious juice. Patty S.

Thank you all for the nice comments. Kpaq, that is a pulsitilla seed head, I like it better than the flower itself. Deanna, I'll post a few more of that bed with pretty much hosta visable, it is full of heucheras,irises,hellebores,bleeding hearts,garden phlox, you name it, it's in there! whenever your ready! I"ll divide those hosta and you can come on down and get em! weeds make me crazy, I spend well over an hour a day on my hands and knees..

Love your trees especially...how you must have enjoyed watching them grow. And your ratio of foliage to blooms in your perennial areas really appeal to me...the flowers are really nicely set off against the green background of earlier/later blooming plants. josh

Trees, they are my joy. I lost over a dozen trees this winter, due to all kinds of things, but it is so sad.

My yard just looks so barren and awful in the spring..but my trees, the are so precious to me. I actually have dozens of new trees on order coming this year..I can't wait..well better we are getting snow today.

The only trees in the yard in the photos that I didn't plant are the large ash tree and one large maple, the rest are all my babies.

I have 5 acres and about 2 are perennials..I'll share a few more here..

thanks, mostly since our fire i've been plopping things in..this year i hope to arrange things a bit better..and whoah they need dividing badly..been 5 years for most of them, or longer
