For cool season grasses, the answer is nothing. Encouraging growth when the grass is stressed is counter-productive. Wait for the cool weather to arrive and apply most of the season's fertilizer needs then. Lots of decent ways to skin that part of the cat. I apply 20 lbs per thousand of organic fertilizer in Sep and Oct then one pound per thousand urea after the first hard freeze. Then, next spring I fertilize, once for most areas, again. Then nothing while its hot.

Last winter was my first with Banana's so what I did was stop the fertilier and cut way back on the water(once or twice a month). Unless you are going to protect them from frost the new leaves that might come up will die on a frost night anyway.

Okay, let's see, between both posts regarding fertilizing succulents in winter, totals 50/50 answers..lol. Cactus, can you give me an example of a non-species Aloe? Josh, your Pachira grows year round? Funny you mentioned citrus..Like my question about fertilizing sux, citrus flower/fruit more in winter..same with Olive Tree 'European.' Flowers and sometimes fruits..very tiny fruit. But I fear fertilizing them. You fert Hoyas...interesting. Maybe I should give it a try..Hoyas are placed before two south windows on the second floor. I wondered if a half dose would be okay. Years ago, I recall reading articlas written by different authors. "Slow-growing plants needs little fertilizer during growing seasons and none throughout winter. If fertilized often, 'X' plants grow spindly." I followed their rules for years, now I'm unsure. If it's sunny tomorrow, I might fert/ST some sux.

Here in the deep south we are about in the middle of bloom season. Combating rust has been almost a full time job on tets. New growth would make the plants much more attractive for "curb appeal". I would like to fertilize but concerned about the heat of summer I know is coming. Our plants normally produce reduced new growth during our hot months. I welcome your advice,thanks.
