Fertilizing Bananas during the winter months

Hi all. The "garden guy" on tv recommended that we gardeners stop fertilizing "frost sensitive" plants this week. Im wondering about my bananas. Yes, theyre frost sensitive (most of my fruit trees are, the citrus just less so), but theyre such fertilizer hogs that Im hesitant to completely cut out their nitrogen "fix". I mean, theyre complete junkies for the stuff! Im using peters 20-20-20 diluted to half strength about once a week (or so, I often forget), and they seem to be doing okay. Am I gonna screw them up if I continue this course through the winter? Theyre mulched well, but the soil is so poor in nitrogen (and other things) here that I dont want to starve them. Whats your experience?
