I was cruising Barnes & Noble today &, as usual, I was checking out their remaindered section. I came across a little book calledSchott's Original Miscellany I briefly leafed through it and became immediately enchanted. It was published in Britain and is a book of trivial facts arranged in no apparent order, but when I saw that it included such things as the history of the Hat Tax and a list of Cricket Dismissals, I knew that I had to own any book with this level of whimsy.

Once I got home I found more gems: a compendium of Cockney rhyming slang, a guide to pronouncing British surnames (Auchinlech - Af-leck - who would have thunk it?),all five verses of the British National Anthem (an who would have know about the other 4 except maybe Sara?), a list a everyone who was featured on the album cover of the Sgt. Pepper album, and ever so much more.

I've been driving DH crazy all evening educating him on yet another :fun Fact." This is the best $4.98 I've spent in a long time.
