Which I haven't seen for 20 or 30 years. In fact, the last time I saw one was when I was meandering some unpaved roads and stopped at a little country store nestled on the side of a mountain in West-by-g-Virginia. The wrapping was a bit dusty, so I bypassed the opportunity to nibble on a bit of childhood.

We still get them (moon pies) fresh all the way up here and yes they are still tasty.

I used to buy them when I lived in N.California. I haven't looked for them in Wa. But they sure are wonderful.

Me too :( Double decker chocolate are my favorite, especially warmed a bit. Although loads of people prefer the single banana. You're supposed to have an RC with it, but I haven't seen RC in ages! Yes, great diversity at our party. Do you think that the world is getting smaller? Won't it make cultures clash more (as they currently are)? Will there be a one side wins and the other goes away or could there be a comingling? These are the questions on my mind in the midst of a global "war" and while taking foreign policy classes. Think I'll go find a moon pie and an RC.

I keep my eyes peeled for moon pies as well. My mother has a friend who is into her eighties who lives on the border of our state and Kentucky. The only time she finds them is when she can travel to Amish country. So, when I run into a stash of moon pies, I buy them up for her. They go down best with a side of R C cola.

I sure wish Chicago had a Mardi Gras tradition appropriate for us heathenly types. Of course, we'd probably have too many people drinking and freezing to death on the streets.

We did a road trip to New Orleans over winter break. My husband was generally the morning gas filler-upper and convenience-store-breakfast buyer. We overnighted in mid-Mississippi, and he came up with a sack of moon pies. I'd had them and sort of liked them, especially the banana ones, when I was a kid. I'm sorry to say I don't anymore. I still like the idea of them, though.

I much preferred the spicy little meat pies I was getting at a slightly disreputable-looking local convenience store in NOLA. Not a clue as to what might have been in them, but they were sadly my best new food find of the week. Anyone have a Sweeney Todd quote to add here?

Interesting how this thread immediately became about moon pies - I posted it because I was interested in the diversity of the two topics and named each one.

With this gang, it probably would have even turned to food if you had named the thread "Pie Moon." LOL

This was a case of "OT" meaning not On Topic, but "On Title". And so far we've done a pretty good job of not detouring.

As for diversity, what is there to say? We are all human, and all else varies according to the individual. Any particular topic will find a few of us agreeing, a few of us disagreeing, and the rest of us digressing; occasionally concurrently. And that sounds like one of the better dinner parties I've attended, and I guess that's the point -- otherwise we would have been named something other than 'Garden Party'.

Along the same line...

I very seldom post to the Journal Threads but I love the idea and the 'rules' set up here regarding these threads.

It is where we can lay out our feelings, our vents, our emotions, our lives, without comment.

We all need to just 'sound' at times and it is so nice to be able to do this among friends.

Rules? on Journal threads? You mean there are guidelines for any GP thread (other than "Thy shalt not ignore GW's rules") ???

There's a Metro subway station which has boarding docks on both sides of the train, however, one must know which train will open its doors on which side when it's facing which way. Knowing this, I am usually careful to choose the correct dock so that I can board the car going to my destination. Until I learned how to determine the correct dock, I occasionally found myself watching homeward-bound trains bounding away from me. Being on the wrong dock presents the same confusion in me as learning that we are supposed to be following posting rules at the Party.

More of a gentleperson's agreement on that there thread.....

Meldy, it was started as place for several people in a row to write the day's happenings. Some found it too confusing to have interjections/non-journal comments posted in-between the entries and wanted the continuity of spirit to remain as one Party "journal". If you wanted to comment, you were to post a new thread with "journal sidebar" into title. It sort of worked and when it quit happening, many quit posting on the journal thread. I miss Jude, Jaz, Maryanne, Suzanne and many many others posted. It started out as Suzanne's idea and she's not even posting at all any more. Time marches on!

Yes, the idea was that we could each right our journal for the day, simply our thoughts and commentary. It was felt it would be interesting just to let a person's journal sit there. No comments, no disagreeing or agreeing with this sort of digital stream of consciousness.

I kind of miss when it was that way. But they were not rules, kind of guidelines set up amongst ourselves at that time. If you've ever read the journals of people you know they can be fascinating just left alone.

As Rob says, time marches on and there is no way for anyone who wasn't around when the journal thread began to know that's how it was originally intended to be. I miss it actually and don't post a journal because I don't want to have to answer questions about it, I just want to journal and let it be my thoughts on a blank page...not a correspondence. Commenting began with people who actually knew what it was intended to be, but like most of us, just couldn't resist putting in their dime's worth. Often saying "I know we're not suppposed to..." but went ahead anyway.

No big deal either way.

To bring the thread back to Moonpies... one of my dogs names is Mona Moonpie... the day I got her a friend commented that she was all the colors of a Moonpie.

Moonpie - great name of a dog. Reminds me of Soleil Moonfrye - the infamous Punky Brewster.
