It would be easier to ID if you posted a larger photo.

Try googling images of Leucadendron; I think you'll find a match.

seedmoney - thank you... I did google-search the Leucadendron and while the bud is very similar, I wasn't able to find a species with the holly-shaped fuzzy leaves.

susanc & seedmoney: Thank you so much for your help! The plant I painted looks like a cross between BOTH of your finds:
-- the Hakea Denticulata thick fuzzy leaves and the red+orange color of the flowers...
-- the Holly-leaved Grevillea has the long colorful flowers growing from the bulb clusters but the leaves are more like holly, not as thick and fuzzy.
