I work in a garden center and this plant stumped our 'brain trust' yesterday.

One of my coworkers believes it is a California native, as he has seen it in many of our local parks.

It has lily-like leaves, which emerge in spring (it dies back in the winter). The customer says its been coming up in her yard for the last 6 or 7 years, and this is the first year it's bloomed.

The flower stalk is 6 feet tall.

The flowers are small (about the size of a nickel, or maybe a little larger), and are borne on branches off the main flower stem.

They are white, with six skinny petals, and six stamens that open to lie along the line of the petals.

I've included a link to a picture. The plant in question is in just in front of the rock border.

Here is a link that might be useful: {{gwi:150836}}
