Not much to say lately. The weather hasn't been too bad; little if no freezing nights and 50's and 60's during the day. That will change this week.

Tonight is another special celestial event. This full moon coincides with the moon's perigee point and will appear as much as 30% brighter than other full moons that occur when the moon is near it's apogee. (Perigee is when the moon is closest to the earth and apogee is when the moon is farthest from the earth.) Should be a pretty sight tonight. Bummer, we are socked in with clouds and rain. Oo la.

Had to replace a hard drive on my computer. Nothing was lost; I keep nothing of importance on it. I have back up storage drives for that.

It's rather blase here today so I have been cruising youtube. Don't know if this has been posted here before but I don't remember seeing it. It does make me smile.

Blue skies here today, in the 60s. A chilly wind this evening. The moon was awfully pretty tonight.

Went out to dinner with a dear friend. It was our first time in a new restaurant (in an old historic building). My salmon was great, served with a tasty orange squash and English split pea soup. She had mahi mahi which looked good. There was supposed to be live music starting at 7. A local guy playing alt.country/folk, but he was just setting up by the time we left at 8:15. We ended up walking through downtown (2nd Saturday Art Hop was tonight which featured local artists in various shops and restaurants--this happens every 2nd Sat of the month). We ended up a bar and grill called The Post Office and watched an older guy play acoustic guitar and singing blues, a solo act. Very good. I was designated driver and Beth had some wine. Went home before 10.

Great video! I saw the Tokens last year; they put on a great show.

Grey in grey and a cold wind here. Yesterday it was wet and grey and a cold wind. As it is befitting for a old couple, stayed in, played a couple of chess games, watched a local PBS show and read, a bit more exitment and it would get dangerous, LOL.

Technically, it weren't a civl war. By definition, a civil war is where 2 or more factions are fighting for control of the same government. The War For States' Rights was not about control of the US government, but about the South's desire to govern themselves as an independent nation. War Between the States is a more accurate description. War of Northern Agression fits well, too. That term originated in the North, by the way. I did thoroughly enjoy Mr. Burns' documentary. It seemed as fair as possible in presenting both sides, well, as far as a Yankee can be in this situation. Loved his baseball documentary too. Just being a bit cheeky this morning.... Elia

Ick! It made the rounds here over Christmas... made for an interesting holiday especially since DH had to take a 9 hr. flight back to Denmark. Luckily he never came down with it. As a matter of fact it skipped three of the four males in the house but hit all three females! Now the barking cough is making the rounds in this area and my nephew who also is staying here has it. I'm hoping if we are to come down with it we get it over with now since the kids and I fly to Denmark on the 31st...wouldn't you love to be on a 9 hour flight with me if we get it!!! Not!

OK, I thought about it some more... after all, who in their right mind would drink a gallon of bucket-stored wine made by impoverished monks in one sitting? Fill up the three gallon bucket. Dump its contents into the fiver. Fill up the three again. Completely fill the fiver. You should have one gallon remaining in the three gallon bucket. Now completely dump the fiver into the big bucket. Dump the one gallon into the fiver. Completely re-fill the three gallon bucket, and dump those three gallons into the fiver as well. You should now have four gallons in the fiver, four in the eight, and none in the three. This is a better solution than my first stab at the puzzle because the mass of the three gallon bucket would have unfairly displaced a little extra wine from the five gallon bucket. If the two wine connoisseurs happened to have been siblings, the bickering that would ensue might have driven the impoverished monks to either murder... or to consuming all of their product before it could be found by wine connoisseurs in the first place!

You're sounding pretty mellow, Dorph. It's a mellow day here as well. Temps not even in the 80s today, but the sun still has some heat to it. It's the last day of the month, and the last workday of the week before the big weekend. I hate to kiss August goodbye. The little gremlins have been back in school here for a week or two already. That seems almost sacriligious to send them back before next month. How can a child possibly concentrate when it's still swimming weather out there? The vegetable garden is giving its last sigh for the summer crops. The lack of adequate rains was the final straw. What isn't going from that, the rabbits are finishing off. I did precious little canning compared to most years, what with the loss of our fruit crop and a nearly full pantry from last year's efforts. My mind wandered to Michelle, who gets a lot of creative mileage from her tomato crop. Mine went almost entirely to sauce, something we use a lot of through the winter. I've tomatoes coming on yet, but only plan to do one more canning effort with them geared toward salsas. Next week, the grapes. There is just something so primal and essential about a tassle of grape vines. They're approaching a full dead ripe now, and soon the hornets and other wasps will find them. The grasses are now sporting their seed heads and it's time to get out the wreath frames before they open entirely. Upstairs the heart of a quilt is forming. It's a cathedral windows, and for any quilters out there, they can appreciate the handwork this one requires. Not a good choice for an impatient person, or one who needs warmth quickly. The weekend plans are for family togetherness, and relaxing a bit. Out on the roads are the last place I want to be. This particular weekend brings back some really nostalgic memories for me, as it was one where we all gathered at my parent's cottage on the river, to eat until we burst, watch the last batch of city folk fly by in their motor launches and skis and then watch the river turn into glass come evening with the herons swooping down to hunt. Then off to cards, reading, or bed with the cool river breezes and smell wafting in. No TV, no air conditioners. The trees here, with the heat/lack of rain are turning early. The burning bushes are already blushing, as are the native sassafras and the locust trees are becoming golden. Oh gosh, too soon!

We didn't get to see the beautiful moon either. Alternating snowing and raining. Rather cold here today and supposed to be a cold week. Another good week for cooking and making bread.

I love that song. Thanks for the link. Kids love it too, especially babies. I have known several over the years whose parents played it for them as the childs favorite song. Gets those little ones wiggling and bopping. Fun. Thanks.

In the twenties early morning, in the upper sixties late afternoon. We call it "false spring". Kick up the wood-stove early, and bank the fire for the day, kick it up again after dark.
The sunny afternoons are so tempting, I have a lot of outdoor stuff to do, so much gets taken care of.
Mornings are for organizing things indoors, for baking bread, watering house-plants and cleaning the fish-tank.
It is a pleasant interlude and I hope it will be followed by lots of rain, we need it.

It's gotten colder here, but not as cold as it's going to get this week. However, it's clear as clear can be today, so I'm going to be looking forward to a bright shining moon tonight.

I thought about you this morning Michael,and Wanda. Hey...where is wanda anyway? There was an article in the paper about healthy people and it said that the unhealthiest people in the country lived in Alabama. I think the healthiest were in Connecticut and a couple of other states.

We're supposed to get snow this week. Honest to gosh snow, so that means we won't (until Thursday afternoon when I have to be in the 'boro by 2:30. Ugh). I can handle getting to work and back, but another couple of counties is just a little too hard to do. I have one course on Monday nights, Tue/Thurs midday, and one correspondence, should keep it interesting. I checked into refinancing the house to absorb the debt and buy time on selling it, but the house would appraise 12% too low. :( Maybe that would change after working on all remaining projects except the kitchen, in a handful of months (and the market getting more upbeat, Nashville is less affected than many markets). Not doing the kitchen would save me thousands. Here's to hoping! Cracked crabs followed by movie watching yesterday.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight is my all time favorite song, always cheering me up. Additionally makes me think of Tracy Ullman and a skit she did when she got everyone at the bus stop singing it, but pickpocketed them at the same time. They left happy to start their day so well singing such a joyful song, too funny!

The moon was awesome last night - a big, bright globe in the sky. The Lion Sleeps Tonight is a nice song, but on a moonlit night like last night I'm always reminded of Cat Stevens singing "Moon Shadow."

I really don't know what to think or say about that particular poll. I don't like labels like that. Not everyone in Alabama is unhealthy. Do Alabamians have more health problems than other? Maybe, maybe not.

I need to dig around in the shoe boxes and see iffin I can come up with a picture or two. In the mid 70's I was the perfect little hippie kid. Hair, bell bottoms, and all that....

Yep, that's the one. And until I moved out to the country I never really experienced the phenomena because of all the light pollution in the city. But now, every time there's a bright full moon, I find that song racing through my head.
